Tottenham makes decision on whether to accept or reject big and career changing offer Real Madrid has just made, fans anxiously alerted

According to sources speaking to Football Insider, Tottenham is standing firm against potential bids from Real Madrid or any other club aiming to snatch away their star defender Cristian Romero this summer. Senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke, in the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, emphasized that Spurs would require an “astronomical” offer to even contemplate letting go of the Argentina international. Even then, the likelihood of them agreeing to such a deal is exceedingly low.

Romero, who joined Tottenham from Atalanta in a £42.5 million deal three years ago, has been a standout performer in north London. Despite rumors linking him to Real Madrid, the 26-year-old is reportedly content at Tottenham and is contracted with the club until 2027. Manager Ange Postecoglou is keen on retaining Romero for the upcoming season, focusing on strengthening defensive options rather than parting ways with key players.

Earlier reports from Football Insider revealed Postecoglou’s plans to bring in a new central defender to complement Romero and Micky van de Ven, indicating Tottenham’s commitment to bolstering their defensive lineup. Romero, who became a permanent Spurs player after initially joining on loan in 2021-22, showcased his prowess by starting in all 34 of his appearances last season, contributing five goals along with seven yellow cards and a sending off.

Despite Romero’s current involvement with Argentina in the Copa America, he is expected to play a significant role for Postecoglou’s squad next season. Real Madrid’s interest in the centre-back is no surprise, with other top European clubs likely to join the pursuit during this summer transfer window. Former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton expressed that Romero might be tempted by a move to the La Liga giants before the transfer window closes.

In essence, Tottenham’s stance remains resolute in retaining Romero amidst growing interest from top clubs, indicating a strong desire to build a competitive squad for the upcoming campaign.
