Harry Kane is poised to make a return to Tottenham Hotspur this summer following England’s Euro 2024 campaign. Currently, Kane is with the England squad, aiming for Euro 2024 success in Germany. England secured their advancement as Group C winners after a goalless draw against Slovenia on Tuesday night. It is anticipated that Gareth Southgate’s squad will face the Netherlands in the round of 16, scheduled to take place in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday evening.

Kane departed Spurs last summer, joining Bayern Munich in a deal reportedly worth £86.4 million. Despite this, he is set for a swift return to North London as Bayern will face Spurs in the Visit Malta Cup at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in August. The match, confirmed to be broadcast live on TNT Sports, was highlighted by a social media announcement: “Their all-time leading scorer returns. Watch Harry Kane’s return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 10 August LIVE on TNT Sports and Discovery Plus UK.”

The fixture announcement in March included a statement from Spurs: “Our Men’s First Team will face six-time European champions FC Bayern in the Visit Malta Cup at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 10 August, 5.30pm kick-off. This exciting curtain-raiser to the new season holds special significance, with the Club’s all-time leading goalscorer, Harry Kane, and long-serving defender Eric Dier having recently joined the Bundesliga champions. This will be the 12th meeting with Bayern in our history and only the fourth on home soil. We memorably defeated the German giants on our way to UEFA Cup success 40 years ago and last met in the UEFA Champions League during the 2019/20 season.”

In other developments, John Wenham believes Tottenham could sign LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David. Wenham, the owner of the Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, suggests that the North London club might be enticed by the striker’s price. According to The Guardian (25 June), Chelsea, Manchester United, West Ham, and Spurs are all interested in David, who could be available for as little as £20 million. Wenham, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, remarked on the potential move, stating: “I’m surprised by the fee which is being reported. He is an interesting player who can operate through the middle or out wide. Therefore, I think Tottenham will see this as a good market opportunity. It is a spectacular deal in terms of the price, especially considering David has a high potential sell-on value.”

The prospect of Jonathan David joining Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou raises several questions. Tottenham’s need for a new number nine is evident. While it remains uncertain if David is the long-term solution to their striking issues, his £20 million price tag makes him a worthwhile gamble for the club. David has consistently demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess in France, and at 24, he deserves a chance to prove himself in England. Competing with clubs like United and Chelsea for his signature could be challenging, but securing David might turn out to be the bargain of the summer.
