The Magpies faced the daunting prospect of potential penalties, including the deduction of league points, if they failed to bring their financial house in order. This urgency led to a whirlwind Saturday of negotiations, with rumors swirling at one point about Anthony Gordon’s potential move to Liverpool. Ultimately, Newcastle made the tough decision to part ways with promising talents Minteh and Anderson, fetching a combined £68 million in transfer fees.
This strategic move not only shores up Newcastle’s financial standing but also secures their key assets like Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak (recently inquired about by Chelsea), and Bruno Guimaraes (whose £100 million release clause recently expired). Initially earmarked for a move to Everton, Yankuba Minteh’s transfer fell through over valuation disagreements involving Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
