Newcastle United’s dynamic winger, Yankuba Minteh, has reportedly come to terms with Brighton following the club’s acceptance of a substantial £33 million bid for his talents, as confirmed by sources speaking to Football Insider. Hailing originally from Gambia, Minteh has made the journey to England’s south coast and is now on the verge of completing his medical ahead of what promises to be a record-breaking move to the Amex Stadium.

Brighton’s willingness to break their own transfer record, previously set at £30 million for Joao Pedro from Watford, underscores their commitment to bolstering their squad with top-tier talent. Negotiations between the two Premier League sides culminated in Newcastle granting the 19-year-old permission to finalize personal terms with Brighton, despite his contractual ties at St James’ Park running until 2028.

The transfer saga surrounding Minteh has been fueled by Newcastle’s need to address their Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) concerns, which prompted their decision to make him available for transfer. Reports from Football Insider dating back to June 9 initially indicated Newcastle’s openness to bids for the Gambian international, whom they acquired just last summer for £6 million after an impressive stint with Odense in Denmark, where he racked up four goals and six assists.

Following his acquisition, Minteh was loaned out to Dutch powerhouse Feyenoord, where his talent flourished with an impressive tally of 10 goals and six assists in 27 appearances in the Eredivisie last season. Despite these stellar performances, Newcastle’s financial obligations have necessitated Minteh’s departure to ensure compliance with league regulations.

As reported on June 28 by Football Insider, Newcastle faces potential penalties for breaching PSR guidelines if they fail to conclude Minteh’s transfer before an imminent accounting deadline. Earlier in the same week, Minteh had turned down a proposed move to Lyon, paving the way for Brighton to secure his services. Barring any unforeseen developments, Minteh is now poised to join Brighton at the Amex Stadium, marking a significant step in his burgeoning career and a crucial addition to Brighton’s ambitions in the upcoming season.
