By May, Football Italia reported that Buongiorno had attracted interest from not only Tottenham but also Inter Milan, Juventus, and Napoli. According to renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Napoli appears to have won the race for the Italian international. Romano mentioned that a positive meeting between Torino and Napoli had taken place, with a final agreement on the transfer fee imminent.
Alessandro Buongiorno, a 25-year-old centre-back who also has the versatility to play as a left-back, reportedly carries a £47 million price tag. A lifelong Torino fan, Buongiorno joined the club’s youth setup at the age of seven and has spent his entire career with them so far. Standing at 6ft 3in, he gained valuable experience through loan spells at Carpi and Trapani before returning to Torino in the 2020/21 season, where he established himself as a regular in the team.
Buongiorno has made 105 competitive appearances for Torino and has earned four caps for the Italian national team. His skills have been widely praised, with Football Italia’s Carlo Garganese highlighting his exceptional game reading, aerial ability, aggressive play, and threat from set pieces. Additionally, Jacek Kulig from Football Talent Scout has described Buongiorno as “one of the most underrated players in Italy,” “one of the most interesting centre-backs in Serie A,” and a “remarkable” talent.
As Tottenham continues to navigate the transfer market, the potential loss of Buongiorno to Napoli underscores the challenges they face in securing top-tier talent.
