“So absurd, i can’t believe it”- Alasdair Gold shocked after hearing ‘stunning bid’ Tottenham have rejected

As Saturday draws to a close, Tottenham Hotspur will have completed more pre-season friendlies than permanent signings made this summer. The ambitious plans of manager Ange Postecoglou to see significant early business have not come to fruition. With the team gearing up for their Asian tour next week, they have only welcomed Archie Gray into their squad so far. Although Timo Werner has rejoined the club on a season-long loan, many Spurs fans do not regard him as a new signing given his prior stint at the club.

The summer transfer window has seen Tottenham focus more on player exits than arrivals. A substantial number of players have already departed, and the likelihood of further exits remains high. This strategic approach to clearing out the squad has been somewhat successful, though it has not yet yielded substantial financial returns, with only Joe Rodon and Troy Parrott’s departures generating revenue.

Despite the current focus on offloading players, there remains interest in several Tottenham assets. One significant story this summer is the surprising rejection of a bid by AC Milan for Emerson Royal. According to journalist Alasdair Gold, the bid of £8.5 million was rejected by Tottenham, a move that has left many, including Gold himself, astounded.

Given that Tottenham secured a place in the Europa League for the 2024/25 season, it was anticipated that they would make a concerted effort to strengthen their squad early in the transfer window. However, the club’s primary focus has been on player exits rather than bolstering the squad with new signings. This strategy has seen many players leave the club, though the financial benefits from these departures have been limited, with notable exceptions being the sales of Joe Rodon and Troy Parrott.

Gold expressed his disbelief at the recent events concerning Emerson Royal. Tottenham reportedly turned down an £8.5 million offer from AC Milan, a bid that many would consider substantial. Gold was particularly surprised by the club’s decision, saying on his YouTube channel, “Poor old Emerson, I think he’d really like to go to AC Milan. He just wants to play regular football. But AC Milan came in with the stunning bid of £8.5m, which is exactly the bid they put in verbally that Spurs said no to. I can’t believe it. It’s just madness. Spurs are looking for about £16.8m for him. But again, a player with interest.”

This rejection raises questions about Tottenham’s valuation of their players and their transfer strategy. While the club seems firm on their asking price, the market’s response could impact their approach as the window progresses.

Djed Spence’s performance in Wednesday night’s friendly against Hearts at Tynecastle may significantly influence the future of Emerson Royal at Tottenham. Spence, who was selected as the starting right-back for the second half, delivered an outstanding performance. He scored a goal and provided an assist, showcasing his potential as a valuable asset for the team.

Spence’s impressive showing could well have caught the eye of Postecoglou, who is currently on the lookout for a reliable backup right-back. Given Tottenham’s need for squad depth and the search for suitable replacements, Spence’s performance might have bolstered his case for a more prominent role within the squad.

The timing of Spence’s standout display is crucial, as it comes amidst speculation regarding Emerson Royal’s future. While Tottenham is open to selling Emerson for the right price, the bid from AC Milan did not meet their valuation. Spence’s recent performance could further influence Tottenham’s decisions regarding Emerson, potentially sealing his exit from the club.

As the transfer window continues, Tottenham fans will be keenly observing how the club navigates the complex landscape of incoming and outgoing transfers. The balance between strengthening the squad and managing player departures will be crucial for the club’s success in the upcoming season.
