Ange Postecoglou, the Tottenham manager, has been vocal about his ambition to bring in a top-tier striker, and it appears that Solanke is the player he and the club have chosen to invest in. The Bournemouth forward, who found the back of the net 19 times in the Premier League last season, is protected by a £65 million release clause. However, it’s been reported that the clause has certain complexities, leaving it unclear whether Tottenham will trigger it or negotiate a separate agreement with Bournemouth.
What is evident is that Bournemouth is prepared to part ways with Solanke, and the player himself has already agreed to personal terms with Tottenham. Should the deal go through, it would mark Bournemouth’s most lucrative sale in their history. Additionally, if the transfer fee exceeds £60 million, Solanke would become Tottenham’s most expensive signing, surpassing the record held by Richarlison, who was acquired for £50 million plus £10 million in add-ons. There is speculation that Richarlison could be sold to make way for Solanke.
While Solanke’s potential arrival has captured most of the attention, another significant development is unfolding involving Tottenham’s right-back, Emerson Royal. According to reports, Tottenham has come to terms with AC Milan regarding Emerson’s transfer after lengthy negotiations.
Emerson had slipped down the pecking order at Tottenham, behind Pedro Porro, prompting the club to explore options for his departure. Although personal terms between Emerson and Milan were agreed upon over a month ago, the two clubs struggled to reach a consensus on the transfer fee and payment terms. Tottenham initially sought €25 million for Emerson, but Milan was only willing to offer €10 million. However, Milan was forced to increase their bid to €15 million plus €2 million in add-ons after a knee injury to Alessandro Florenzi left them in need of defensive reinforcements. Despite this figure falling short of Tottenham’s original expectations, they have now accepted Milan’s offer. The transfer has been confirmed by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, who announced it on social media, signaling the deal’s imminent completion.
With Emerson’s departure, Tottenham will need to fill the void at right-back. Although they have Pedro Porro and the newly signed Archie Gray, who can provide cover in that position, they are actively seeking a replacement. Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Tottenham might turn their attention to Manchester City’s Issa Kabore as a potential addition. Kabore, a 23-year-old full-back, has been on Manchester City’s books since 2020 but has yet to make a first-team appearance. Instead, he has gained experience through loan spells, most recently with Luton Town, where he impressed in the Premier League last season. However, Kabore is not the only option being considered by Tottenham as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
