As the MLS regular season continues until October 2024, Charlotte FC presently occupies the sixth position in the Eastern Conference after 25 matches.
Sky Sports reports that the initial offer from Charlotte FC is significantly below Newcastle United’s valuation of the player. Despite this, a delegation from Charlotte FC has traveled to the United Kingdom in hopes of negotiating a deal before the MLS transfer window closes on Wednesday, August 14th.
Miguel Almiron, who is now 30 years old, is facing a challenging situation at Newcastle United. Having served the club admirably for over five and a half seasons, Almiron is now considered more of a squad player rather than a guaranteed starter. This shift in his role has fueled ongoing speculation about his potential departure, with suggestions that selling him could help Newcastle United fund new signings that manager Eddie Howe is targeting.
Almiron still has two years remaining on his contract with Newcastle United. From a financial perspective, his situation could be advantageous for the club if they can secure a satisfactory offer. While there were previous rumors about a possible move to a Saudi Pro League club both in January and at the start of this transfer window, developments have been relatively quiet on that front until now.
In recent developments, Sky Sports has revealed that Newcastle United is once again in discussions with a Saudi Pro League club regarding Almiron’s transfer. The Paraguayan winger is currently in the United States participating in the Copa America. Although Paraguay has already been eliminated from the competition, with their final match against Costa Rica remaining, Almiron’s participation has not been without its challenges. Paraguay suffered defeats to Colombia and Brazil, the latter including a 4-1 loss to a team featuring Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes.
For Newcastle United fans, the news of ongoing talks with a Saudi Pro League club might not be entirely unexpected. There were strong rumors in January suggesting a potential move, with reports indicating that a provisional agreement with Al-Shabab was in place. However, the transfer did not materialize at that time. According to Keith Downie from Sky Sports, discussions are now underway with an unnamed Saudi Pro League club, and it appears that Almiron could be on the move after five and a half years at St James’ Park.
Given Almiron’s age and his recent struggles to secure a starting position—his last start being on March 11, 2024, in a 3-2 defeat at Chelsea—Newcastle United is assessing their options. Despite facing injury issues, Almiron found himself sidelined as Jacob Murphy emerged as Eddie Howe’s preferred choice later in the season.
The right-wing position seems poised for significant investment this summer. With Yankuba Minteh recently sold to Brighton for £33 million, the expectation is that Almiron may also depart, leading to a new signing potentially arriving to reinforce the position. Jacob Murphy is expected to remain as backup on the right side.

Al-Shabab, currently positioned eleventh in the Saudi Pro League, made several signings last summer, though they were not as high-profile as those of other clubs. Their major signings included Habib Diallo from Strasbourg for £15 million and Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid for £12 million. Notably, Al-Shabab is not part of the four clubs that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) acquired a 75 percent stake in last summer, which includes Al Nassr, Al Hilal, Al Ittihad, and Al Ahli.
