Merson also noted how Solanke’s arrival could benefit James Maddison, who struggled to find space upon his return from injury. With Solanke drawing defenders and creating room, Maddison could have more opportunities to exploit openings and deliver precise passes.
Ange Postecoglou, who led Tottenham to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League in his debut season, faced the challenge of replacing the prolific Harry Kane after his move to Bayern Munich. Despite a promising start to the 2023/24 campaign, Spurs’ performance waned towards the end of the season, hindered by injuries and suspensions to key players.
