‘Remarkable’: Micah Richards tells Palace what to do with Marc Guehi as Newcastle push to sign him

Micah Richards believes that if Newcastle United manage to secure the signing of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, they will be bringing in a “remarkable” player who could significantly strengthen their squad.

The ongoing saga surrounding Newcastle’s pursuit of Guehi has been a point of intense speculation. The Magpies have already seen four bids for the Crystal Palace defender rejected, and with the transfer window closing in less than two weeks, time is running out. Despite the setbacks, Newcastle remains hopeful of completing the deal, but the clock is ticking, and Crystal Palace is determined not to let this situation drag on.

Newcastle’s management now faces a crucial decision: whether to make one final offer for Guehi or shift their focus to alternative options. One such alternative could be Liverpool’s Joe Gomez, who was previously linked with Newcastle earlier in the summer. Gomez is reportedly considering his future at Liverpool, potentially opening the door for a move before the transfer window slams shut on August 30th.

However, despite Gomez being an option, Newcastle’s priority remains Marc Guehi. The main hurdle in securing the deal is the hefty price tag associated with the 24-year-old centre-back. Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish is demanding what some would describe as “superstar money” for Guehi, and Newcastle has struggled to meet this valuation. Their most recent bid, reportedly around £65 million, was still not enough to convince Palace to part ways with their star defender.

Pundit Micah Richards, speaking on Sky Sports Premier League, weighed in on the situation, expressing his belief that Guehi is indeed worth the substantial fee being demanded by Crystal Palace. Richards emphasized the difficulty Palace would face in replacing Guehi, highlighting his importance to the team. He firmly supported the idea that Palace should hold out for as much money as possible, given Guehi’s exceptional talent.

Richards also pointed out that Palace has been actively targeting Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg, with reports suggesting that negotiations for his transfer are progressing well. If Lacroix were to arrive at Selhurst Park, it could pave the way for Guehi’s move to Newcastle, which remains the Magpies’ primary objective.

Beyond his defensive abilities, Richards praised Guehi’s character, describing him as a humble and grounded individual. His personality, combined with his leadership qualities, would make him an ideal fit for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle squad. Howe has always prioritized bringing in not just talented players but also individuals who contribute positively to the team’s culture and dynamics. Guehi, who has already proven himself on the international stage with England at Euro 2024, certainly fits that mold.

Considering Guehi’s qualities, it’s no surprise that Newcastle is willing to invest heavily in securing his services. If they can reach an agreement with Crystal Palace, Guehi’s arrival could be a game-changer for the Magpies as they look to bolster their defense and compete at the highest levels of English football.
