‘In the final days’: Fabrizio Romano says £27m Tottenham player could join Man Utd at the end of the window
With just 10 days left in the transfer window, the futures of several Tottenham Hotspur players remain uncertain. Although Oliver Skipp has secured a move to Leicester City, the situations surrounding Giovani Lo Celso and Djed Spence are still unresolved.
In contrast, Sergio Reguilon’s position at Tottenham appears more clear-cut, as it is evident that he has no future with the club.
Fabrizio Romano recently spoke about Reguilon’s prospects on The United Stand, shedding light on potential developments before the transfer window closes. Romano suggested that a move to Manchester United could be on the cards for the Spanish left-back, as the player is reportedly keen to rejoin the Red Devils. United, fully aware of Reguilon’s availability, might see this as a viable option in the final days of the window.
Romano shared his insights into the situation, noting, “Another player who would love to return to Manchester United is Sergio Reguilon. He was already at the club one year ago and he would be really open to returning. Man United are really aware of his situation at Tottenham, and that may be an opportunity again in the final days because he has to leave Tottenham.”
The idea of Reguilon returning to Manchester United is one that makes a lot of sense. Having spent time on loan at Old Trafford last season, Reguilon would not need time to adjust or settle into the team. Moreover, United’s need for a reliable left-back has only intensified with Luke Shaw’s persistent injury issues. In their opening match against Fulham, the Red Devils were forced to field Diogo Dalot out of position to cover for Shaw’s absence—a clear indication of the need for reinforcement in that area.
Erik ten Hag is likely still in the market for a left-back, and if Reguilon remains available at a reasonable price as the transfer window draws to a close, a deal could be mutually beneficial. Reguilon, valued at £27 million, could provide the necessary cover and competition at left-back, making this a potentially shrewd late-window acquisition for Manchester United.
