GOOD MORNING TRANSFER NEWS DIRECTLY FROM SKYSPORT- Tottenham looks set to beat Liverpool to late deal to sign £50m Bundesliga winner who would be much needed by Ange Postecoglou

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a late move for Bayer Leverkusen’s star defender Piero Hincapié as the summer transfer window approaches its final days, according to a recent Spanish report.

Liverpool, in particular, are actively searching for a new center-back following the departure of Joel Matip. The Reds have been linked with several potential replacements over the past few weeks, with Goncalo Inacio among the names mentioned. However, Hincapié appears to be a serious target for Jurgen Klopp’s side. The Ecuadorian defender was previously linked with a move to Anfield during past transfer windows, but Liverpool did not pursue the deal aggressively, and it ultimately did not materialize.

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will finally make a decisive move to secure Hincapié’s services. The Spanish report, as relayed by TEAMtalk, suggests that Liverpool are keen on bringing the versatile defender to Anfield, and Hincapié himself might be open to a new challenge, making a move away from Leverkusen a possibility.

However, Bayer Leverkusen, who value the South American highly, are reluctant to part ways with their key defender. The German club is reportedly only willing to consider offers in the region of £50 million, a substantial fee that Liverpool would need to meet if they wish to finalize the transfer.

Liverpool are not the only club interested in Hincapié, though. Tottenham Hotspur, under the management of Ange Postecoglou, are also reportedly considering a move for the Ecuadorian defender. Postecoglou prefers to have a left-footed center-back on the left side of his defense, and currently, Micky van de Ven is the only left-footed center-back in Tottenham’s squad. Adding Hincapié to their ranks would provide valuable depth and support for the Dutch international.

Additionally, Atletico Madrid are rumored to be contemplating a late bid for Hincapié, further intensifying the competition for his signature.

Hincapié’s versatility is one of his standout attributes. Capable of playing both as a center-back and as a left-back, he possesses the pace, ball-playing ability, and defensive acumen that would make him a valuable asset for any top club. His ability to read the game and contribute effectively in defense would make him a strong addition to Liverpool or Tottenham if either club decides to move forward with their interest.

As the clock ticks down to the transfer deadline, it will be intriguing to see whether Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur decide to make a formal offer for Hincapié and if they can meet Leverkusen’s hefty asking price. The race for the Ecuadorian defender’s signature is heating up, and it could come down to the wire as both clubs look to bolster their defensive options for the season ahead.
