Tottenham Hotspur appears to be at the forefront in the battle to secure the services of promising Danish defender Patrick Dorgu, who is currently making a significant impact at Serie A club Lecce.
The 19-year-old has drawn attention from some of Europe’s elite clubs, including Chelsea, due to his standout performances in Italy. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (as cited by Sport Witness), Tottenham seems to be in the strongest position to bring the versatile full-back to North London, given the fierce competition for his signature.
Dorgu, who came through the FC Nordsjaelland academy, joined Lecce’s first team last summer and has quickly made a name for himself as one of the most exciting young talents in Serie A. His ability to play effectively on either flank, combined with his robust defensive skills and attacking flair, has made him highly sought after across Europe. During the past season, he featured prominently in 34 matches for Lecce. Despite rising speculation and interest from several clubs, Lecce managed to retain Dorgu for the time being. However, with Tottenham reportedly leading the chase, it appears his future in Italy could be coming to an end. Spurs, under the stewardship of Ange Postecoglou, have been actively pursuing young talents as part of their long-term strategy, and Dorgu fits their profile perfectly.
Originally valued at around €30 million, Dorgu’s price tag has now escalated to approximately €40 million, reflecting the increased interest and his rising reputation. Despite the higher cost, Tottenham is reportedly undeterred and remains committed to advancing negotiations. Chelsea, another club keen on Dorgu, has been reshaping their squad under new management, with a focus on securing top young talent from across the globe. With Ben Chilwell’s standing becoming less secure and Marc Cucurella’s performances not yet fully convincing, Chelsea views Dorgu as a potential long-term solution for their left-back position.
In addition to Tottenham and Chelsea’s interest, Manchester United has also been linked with Dorgu, making them another potential contender in the race for his signature. As the competition intensifies, it remains to be seen where the young Dane will ultimately land, but his future is certainly one to watch closely.
