Alan Shearer makes Man Utd and Tottenham prediction; Liverpool, Arsenal win as Man City draw
Alan Shearer has shared his Premier League predictions, with the Newcastle United legend foreseeing a hard-fought draw between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Both teams have experienced inconsistent starts to the season, with each securing two wins, one draw, and two losses in their opening five matches.
A win for either Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United or Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs would significantly boost their position in the early Premier League standings. However, such a result would also put the losing manager under growing pressure as both teams are still seeking momentum. Despite the stakes, Shearer believes the two sides will cancel each other out in a closely contested match, predicting a score draw with plenty of opportunities for both teams to find the net.
Speaking to *The Metro*, Shearer said, “This is a massive game in terms of the top-four race. Neither team has had the start to the season they were hoping for, even though Spurs managed to pick up a win last weekend. It’s a difficult one to predict because neither side is in top form. A draw won’t be an ideal result for either team, but that’s where I think it’s heading.”
Shearer also commented on Erik ten Hag’s surprising decision to bench Marcus Rashford in a previous match, describing it as unusual. “It was really interesting to see Ten Hag leave Rashford out,” Shearer remarked. “Whether it was due to a minor injury or something disciplinary, it’s still strange. When you’re a forward who’s gone through a long goal drought, then you finally score and follow it up with two more goals in midweek, getting dropped just a few days later is baffling. My guess is that he’ll be back in the starting lineup this week, and if he carries over his recent form, he’ll play a crucial role for United. He’s always an important player for them.”

Leicester pulling off a result would be a huge shock. With the form Arsenal are in, and the confidence they’ve taken from their recent performance, I can only see a comfortable home win.”
As for Liverpool’s trip to face Wolves, Shearer said, “Wolves showed some fight in their game against Aston Villa, but I think Liverpool will be too strong for them, particularly in attack. I’m expecting an away win for Liverpool.”
Finally, Shearer gave his thoughts on Newcastle United’s upcoming clash with Manchester City at St James’ Park. He’s anticipating another thrilling encounter between the two sides, predicting a draw. “Over the years, we’ve seen some incredible matches between Newcastle and City at St James’ Park, and I’m expecting another one this weekend,” Shearer explained. “Newcastle’s midweek cup game has been canceled, which means they’ll have a full week to prepare, while City will be missing Rodri. Of course, City have enough quality to cause problems even without him, but I think Newcastle will make it tough, and I see this one ending in a draw.”
