From reliable Sources”- ‘Magnificent’ player wants  to stay at Tottenham this summer ‘if Ange Postecoglou leaves’

According to information obtained by TBR Football, James Maddison’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is currently hanging in the balance as the club braces for a potentially dramatic summer. Uncertainty is growing at Spurs following a deeply disappointing season, and there’s increasing speculation that key changes are on the horizon — changes that could directly affect the club’s marquee midfielder.

Tottenham have endured a dismal 2024/25 campaign, suffering 18 defeats in the Premier League and finding themselves languishing in 16th place. It’s a far cry from the expectations placed on Ange Postecoglou and his squad at the start of the season.

Multiple sources have now confirmed to TBR Football that regardless of what happens in the Europa League — even if Spurs manage to win the competition and end their 17-year trophy drought — Ange Postecoglou is expected to leave his role as head coach this summer. That revelation is likely to set off a domino effect, especially when it comes to the future of some of the club’s star players, including Maddison.

Maddison’s Future Tied to Postecoglou’s Fate

It is believed that the futures of James Maddison and Ange Postecoglou are closely linked, with the manager’s likely departure potentially influencing the midfielder’s decision to stay or seek a move elsewhere.

Maddison was brought to North London in the summer of 2023 as one of Postecoglou’s headline signings. He arrived from Leicester City with high expectations and was viewed as a statement addition to the squad. The England international made an immediate impact, dazzling fans and pundits alike with his creativity, vision, and leadership on the pitch during the early part of the season.

However, since picking up an injury, Maddison’s form has dipped noticeably. He has struggled to regain the rhythm that made him such a standout figure in the opening months, and questions have begun to surface about his relationship with Postecoglou. Even former England striker Gary Lineker publicly wondered if there had been a falling out between the two after Maddison was regularly left out of the starting XI or substituted early.

Remarkably, Maddison has completed a full 90 minutes in just two matches throughout the entire season — a Premier League clash against Everton and a domestic cup tie against Tamworth. That statistic alone has fueled speculation about his long-term position at the club.

TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey offered insight into the situation, suggesting that Maddison’s future could become clearer depending on whether Postecoglou remains in charge.

“James Maddison’s future at Tottenham is far from guaranteed,” Bailey said. “If there’s a managerial change, I believe there’s a stronger chance he’ll stay. Maddison still harbours ambitions to remain in the England setup, and that’s certainly a factor in his decision-making.”

Bailey added that several Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation and could be tempted to make a move for the 27-year-old should he become available. “There’s definitely interest in Maddison from other top-flight teams, but everything hinges on who’s leading Spurs next season. A new manager could potentially reignite Maddison’s career at the club.”

Dip in Form Overshadows Statistical Improvements

Despite criticism of his recent displays, Maddison’s overall numbers this season are actually improved in some areas compared to last year. Early in the campaign, he was among the team’s most influential players, contributing significantly to Tottenham’s attacking play.

However, since the festive period, the creative midfielder has found it increasingly difficult to make an impact. Since Boxing Day, Maddison has registered just one goal and two assists in the Premier League — disappointing returns for a player of his calibre and a stark contrast to the form he showed in the early part of the season.

Former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood has previously described Maddison as “magnificent,” but many fans and pundits have grown frustrated with his inconsistency, especially given the team’s struggles across all competitions.

A Summer of Change Awaits

As Tottenham prepares for what could be a major reshuffle both on and off the pitch, Maddison’s future remains one of the most intriguing storylines to watch. With Postecoglou seemingly on the way out and several players reportedly considering their options, the club may be forced to rethink its long-term plans.

Whether Maddison stays or goes may ultimately depend on the identity of the next head coach. For now, though, the situation remains fluid — and a summer of upheaval at Spurs looks increasingly inevitable.
