Newcastle United Confirm Another Loan Departure After Transfer Deadline
Just hours after the January transfer window closed, Newcastle United has announced another player exit. Due to financial constraints under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), the club refrained from making any major signings for the third consecutive window.
Despite no new arrivals, Eddie Howe’s squad has seen multiple departures, including Miguel Almiron’s return to Atlanta United and Lloyd Kelly’s loan move to Juventus, which includes a £20 million mandatory buy clause. Other exits include Jamie Miley joining Hartlepool and Isaac Hayden moving to Portsmouth on loan.
Now, academy midfielder James Huntley has also left on loan, securing a move to National League side Spennymoor Town for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. The 20-year-old has been a regular in Newcastle’s Under-21 squad but faces tough competition for a first-team breakthrough.
Huntley, who has been with Newcastle since the age of eight, had earned a place on the bench against PSG earlier this season and was given the No.38 squad number—just one below club captain Bruno Guimaraes. His loan spell at Spennymoor will provide valuable first-team experience as he looks to further his development.
