Celtic have resumed their pursuit of Brøndby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden ahead of the summer transfer window, sources tell *Football Insider*.
Senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed on the *Inside Track* podcast that the 22-year-old has been a long-term target for the club, with previous efforts to sign him in the summer failing. The need for a new striker has intensified following Kyogo Furuhashi’s departure in January, making Kvistgaarden a top priority for manager Brendan Rodgers.
Rodgers is reportedly frustrated with Celtic’s failure to secure a replacement in the winter window and is now pushing for the club to land Kvistgaarden. *Football Insider* previously reported on February 4 that Celtic had attempted a late-January move for the striker but were priced out by Brøndby.
While the return of Jota from Rennes and contributions from other players have helped mitigate concerns, Celtic remain keen on adding Kvistgaarden to their squad. The Danish forward has impressed this season, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 15 Superliga appearances. At 22, he represents both a strong attacking option and a potential future sale for profit.
Brøndby were reluctant to lose their key striker so late in the window and set a high asking price, which deterred Celtic from completing the deal. However, the Scottish club now plan to reignite their pursuit, with behind-the-scenes efforts already underway to reach an agreement.
Rodgers is already laying the groundwork for summer signings after expressing dissatisfaction with Celtic’s January business. Despite targeting a new striker, they ended the window with just two arrivals—Jota and Jeffrey Schlupp—leading to concerns about squad depth and goal-scoring consistency for the remainder of the season. This could impact their ambitions both domestically and in European competition.
