Ange Postecoglou’s Future at Tottenham Looks Increasingly Uncertain as Daniel Levy Eyes Potential Replacements
Tottenham Hotspur could be on the verge of yet another managerial shake-up, with Ange Postecoglou’s position as head coach looking increasingly precarious. Reports suggest that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is already considering alternatives, raising the possibility that the club could start the next season with a new figure in the dugout.
Levy Lining Up Potential Successors for Postecoglou
If Postecoglou is shown the door, Tottenham won’t be short on managerial candidates. One of the most notable names in the mix is Mauricio Pochettino, who is reportedly open to returning to North London. Pochettino, currently in charge of the USA national team, has a strong history with Spurs, having led them to the Champions League final in 2019. His return would likely be met with excitement from sections of the fanbase who still admire his previous tenure.
Beyond Pochettino, other potential options include Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Fulham’s Marco Silva, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank—managers who have impressed in the Premier League with their tactical approaches and ability to maximize resources.
Surprisingly, Brendan Rodgers has also been mentioned as a candidate. The 59-year-old, currently at Celtic, has experience in the English top flight and has previously been linked with Spurs. However, whether he would be a genuine contender remains to be seen.
Despite the growing speculation surrounding replacements, Postecoglou will be desperate to hold on to his job. However, his future at Tottenham is increasingly in doubt, and staying beyond the summer appears unlikely unless there is a dramatic turnaround in fortunes.
Europa League Success: Postecoglou’s Only Lifeline?
According to reports from TBR Football on Monday, March 17, Levy has made it clear to Postecoglou that securing European football for next season is a minimum requirement. Given Tottenham’s current struggles in the Premier League, where they sit well outside the top-four race, their best chance of meeting this demand could lie in winning the UEFA Europa League.
However, even if Postecoglou does guide Spurs to European silverware, there is no guarantee he will be safe. Tottenham News exclusively spoke with John Wenham, owner of Lilywhite Rose, who suggested that Postecoglou’s fate could already be sealed, regardless of their Europa League campaign.
“I don’t see any basis for keeping Postecoglou on,” Wenham stated. “There are plenty of managers who I think would get more out of this existing group of players. A lot of people will say give him a chance to win the Europa League, but I just don’t see it happening.
“I cannot see us getting past Eintracht Frankfurt, who easily dispatched Ajax and are sitting comfortably in fourth place in the Bundesliga. How are we going to beat them? We’ve suffered 15 defeats in the Premier League and 19 in all competitions. The numbers don’t lie.”
Wenham went even further, suggesting that Postecoglou’s departure is all but inevitable: “Sometimes you need to be realistic. They need to replace Postecoglou, and unless he wins the Europa League—which I don’t think will happen—I believe it is almost 99 per cent certain he will be replaced.”
Postecoglou Facing a Fight for His Job
The reality is grim for the Australian manager. If Spurs finish in the bottom half of the Premier League and fail to win the Europa League, it will be difficult to argue in favor of keeping him. Unfortunately for Postecoglou, both scenarios seem increasingly likely at this stage.
When Postecoglou arrived, he was seen as a long-term project manager, tasked with rebuilding the squad after Antonio Conte’s turbulent tenure. However, with Tottenham showing little progress and struggling to maintain consistency, Levy appears to be losing patience.
With pressure mounting, Postecoglou’s fate could be sealed in the coming months. A Europa League triumph might be his only hope of survival, but with stiff competition and Spurs’ shaky form, the odds seem stacked against him. If results don’t improve drastically, Tottenham could very well be preparing for yet another managerial change this summer.
