The best news you want on to hear today. Tottenham have made contact with Romero replacement and things could move VERY quickly!

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly stepping up their efforts to secure the signing of highly-rated Inter Milan centre-back Yann Bisseck, as they prepare for the potential departure of star defender Cristian Romero during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The North London club’s growing interest in Bisseck is fueled by mounting speculation surrounding Romero’s future. The Argentine World Cup winner is attracting serious interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, both of whom are eager to lure him to LaLiga.

Romero has done little to quash the rumours, having already hinted at a possible move to Spain. Should he depart, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is expected to demand a fee in the region of £60 million to £80 million for the 27-year-old.

Despite Romero’s form dipping slightly this season compared to previous campaigns, his departure would undoubtedly create a significant void in Tottenham’s backline. The club believes that Bisseck is more than capable of stepping into those shoes, as previously reported by TEAMtalk.

Now, a fresh report from CaughtOffside suggests that Spurs have increased their pursuit of the Inter Milan defender and may have to pay around £47 million to get the deal over the line.

Yann Bisseck has become a vital cog in Simone Inzaghi’s side, having firmly established himself as a regular starter in an Inter team that reached the Champions League semi-finals. The 24-year-old German international has made 40 appearances in all competitions this season, contributing two goals and three assists. A right-footed central defender, Bisseck would be a natural fit to replace Romero on the right side of Tottenham’s central defence.

Despite his importance to Inter, the Italian giants are reportedly open to negotiating a deal for Bisseck. The player still has four years remaining on his current contract, which gives Inter the leverage to demand a significant fee while also ensuring they profit handsomely from any potential sale.

Since making the move to Inter from Danish club Aarhus GF in the summer of 2023, Bisseck has undergone a rapid transformation, becoming one of Serie A’s standout defenders. His blend of speed, strength, and tactical awareness has earned him plaudits across Europe. Among his biggest admirers is Germany legend Lothar Matthäus, who has heaped praise on the young defender, calling him “one of the best central defenders in Serie A.” Matthäus also noted that only “extraordinary” talents can earn and keep a starting role in Inter Milan’s backline—a testament to Bisseck’s quality. Indeed, Inter’s defensive record supports that praise, with the team conceding less than a goal per game in Serie A this season as they continue to challenge Napoli for the league title.

However, Tottenham may not be alone in the race to sign Bisseck. Premier League rivals Manchester United are also said to be monitoring the situation closely, with West Ham United, Everton, and Bournemouth expressing varying degrees of interest as well.

The competition for Bisseck’s signature is expected to heat up in the coming weeks, especially with the summer window approaching fast.

If Tottenham are successful in securing Bisseck, it could be a significant statement of intent as they look to rebuild their defensive core. With Romero potentially on his way out and uncertainty surrounding the club’s long-term defensive setup, Bisseck could prove to be both a replacement and a long-term investment capable of becoming a defensive leader in North London for years to come.
