Strengthening the forward line is understood to be one of the club’s top priorities — even though only seven Premier League teams scored more goals than Tottenham this season. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Leroy Sané has “offered himself” to Tottenham as he eyes a return to the English top flight. His agent, the influential Pini Zahavi, is believed to have initiated contact with Tottenham to explore a potential move, particularly since Sané would be available on a free transfer this summer.
The same report claims that Bayern’s attempts to extend Sané’s contract have failed to impress the player or his representatives. The Bavarian giants’ most recent renewal offer was described as “modest,” and was poorly received by Sané’s camp — prompting the winger to look elsewhere. “I’ve changed my mind on this a few times,” Wyness admitted. “But in the end, I think he’s going to go. Levy will take a broader view of the season as a whole, not just the European games. The major issue has been Postecoglou’s reluctance to adapt tactically. There were several matches where he could have picked up better results had he opted for a more pragmatic approach.”
Wyness went on to say that Tottenham’s extensive injury problems should have prompted a shift toward a more conservative system at times — something Postecoglou refused to do. “That lack of flexibility will likely be the deciding factor for Levy,” he added. “Still, it won’t be an easy decision. There’s been a lot of emotional support for Ange since the Europa League win, and he’s carried himself admirably under pressure.”
