Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a high-profile summer swoop for Manchester City star Jack Grealish, according to former scout Mick Brown. The Magpies are said to be seriously weighing up a move for the England international as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.
Grealish, 29, is among the names under consideration by Newcastle as Eddie Howe seeks to inject quality, experience, and creativity into his frontline. While the former Aston Villa captain would certainly elevate Newcastle’s attacking threat, his significant wage packet—reportedly around £350,000 per week—is viewed as a major hurdle in any potential deal. With two years remaining on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium, the winger is not expected to accept a pay cut without serious incentives.
Brown, speaking in an interview with Football Insider, has indicated that Grealish’s time at Manchester City could be coming to an end. “Newcastle have been seriously considering a move for Jack Grealish,” Brown said. “It’s a transfer I can genuinely see happening once the window opens. Brown further noted that a transfer to St James’ Park could provide Grealish with the consistent game time he has been lacking at City. “It would be a move that makes a lot of sense for him. He’s a player who thrives with confidence and rhythm, and if Newcastle can offer him more regular football, it could be the perfect environment for a fresh start.”
Although Newcastle missed out on Champions League qualification last season, their ambitions remain high, and they still offer a strong platform in the Premier League. “If the club can get the financial side of the deal right, Newcastle could be an appealing destination for Grealish to remain in English football at a competitive level,” Brown added.
Grealish has endured a frustrating campaign at Manchester City, struggling to secure a regular place in the starting lineup. He managed just 16 starts across all competitions this season, including only seven in the Premier League. His inconsistent involvement has sparked growing speculation about his long-term future at the club.
The winger was notably left out of City’s matchday squad for their clash against Fulham last weekend, marking his fifth absence in the club’s last six league games.
