Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their efforts to sign Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to journalist Ben Jacobs. The North London club has reportedly made a formal enquiry regarding the availability of the French international, signaling a strong desire to bolster their attacking options.
Among the various Premier League clubs tracking Nkunku, Tottenham are currently demonstrating the most serious interest. While the 27-year-old has also been linked with possible moves to Liverpool and Newcastle United, Spurs appear to be leading the race for his signature at this stage.
Nkunku, who joined Chelsea from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023, is believed to be open to a new challenge after a frustrating season in West London. Despite his talent and potential, the forward has found regular playing time hard to come by under new head coach Enzo Maresca. Injuries and squad competition have limited him to just nine Premier League starts this season, along with seven appearances in European competitions.
There is speculation that Nkunku may be eyeing a return to the Bundesliga, a league where he thrived for four years with RB Leipzig before making the high-profile switch to Chelsea. However, a continued stay in England is also a possibility, with Tottenham providing a compelling opportunity for a fresh start. German champions Bayern Munich were reportedly interested in acquiring Nkunku during the January transfer window, but Chelsea’s valuation of over €60 million (approximately £51 million) proved to be a stumbling block. The player currently earns an estimated £300,000 per week and still has more than four years remaining on his six-year contract, which is set to run until the summer of 2029.
Despite his struggles this season, Nkunku has shown flashes of his quality when fit. He has featured in 42 matches across all competitions, contributing 14 goals and five assists. His technical ability, versatility in attack, and eye for goal make him an attractive target for Spurs, who are aiming to strengthen their forward line ahead of a crucial campaign.
Nkunku was notably left out of the squad for Chelsea’s dominant 4-1 win over Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final earlier this week, having been sidelined for much of May due to a minor injury. His absence in key moments has only fueled speculation that Chelsea may be willing to entertain offers for the forward this summer.
