Tottenham are growing confident of beating Arsenal and Chelsea to sign Leroy Sane on a free transfer from Bayern Munich this summer, according to reports.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly becoming increasingly optimistic about their chances of securing a sensational free transfer for Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané this summer, despite stiff competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.
Sané, who has been a key figure at Bayern since his £54.8 million move from Manchester City in 2020, was widely expected to sign a contract extension with the German giants this month. However, recent developments have thrown his future into uncertainty. The Germany international recently changed his representation, joining forces with super-agent Pini Zahavi—a move that has complicated negotiations and led to a significant increase in his wage demands.
Bayern Munich have so far struggled to meet the revised terms proposed by Sané’s new camp, placing them in a precarious position. With the 28-year-old’s current contract set to expire at the end of June, Bayern are now at serious risk of losing one of their marquee players on a free transfer—an outcome that would be seen as a major setback for the Bundesliga champions.

The North London club believes that their project under manager Ange Postecoglou, coupled with the prospect of a central role in their attacking setup, could be enough to entice the German international.
Sané’s future remains undecided, and he is reportedly keeping his options open. In addition to Premier League interest, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia have also submitted lucrative offers. While the financial incentives from those leagues are likely substantial, it’s unclear whether Sané is ready to move outside of Europe’s top five leagues at this stage in his career.
Meanwhile, voices within Germany are calling on Bayern Munich to do everything in their power to retain the player. Legendary former midfielder Lothar Matthäus, a World Cup and European Championship winner with Germany, has publicly urged the Bavarian club to keep Sané, describing him as “irreplaceable.”
“There’s no need for a spectacular new signing just because Florian Wirtz’s transfer didn’t work out,” Matthäus told SportBild. “For entertainment and quality, you already have Olise on the right, Musiala as a number 10, and I’d plan with Sané on the left. He’s a player I wouldn’t let go under any circumstances.”
Matthäus emphasized that losing Sané on a free would be a significant blow—not just financially, but also in terms of squad strength and chemistry. “It’s not just about the money. Leroy’s quality, his experience, and his relationships with players like Kompany, Musiala, and Davies bring real value to the team. Whether he tracks back more or less defensively isn’t the point. He’s essential to this Bayern side.”
Sané played an important role in Bayern’s 2024–25 Bundesliga title-winning campaign and lifted the Meisterschale alongside teammates Thomas Müller and others just weeks ago. Despite this success, the uncertainty surrounding his contract renewal has become a major talking point in Germany and across Europe.
