Tel initially joined Spurs on loan during the January transfer window in a deal that cost the Premier League side around €10 million (£8m/$11m) in loan fees. Despite high hopes upon his arrival, the 20-year-old has struggled to fully establish himself under Ange Postecoglou. In 20 appearances across all competitions, Tel logged fewer than 1,300 minutes and managed just three goals, falling short of making a lasting impression on the Australian manager.

With Bayern planning an overhaul of their attacking options following a disappointing campaign, they view Tel’s departure as a means to streamline the squad and balance the books.
