Tottenham Trigger Contract Extension for Ben Davies Through 2026

 

Tottenham Hotspur have officially activated an option in Ben Davies’ contract that will keep the veteran defender at the club until the end of the 2025–26 season. The move ensures the experienced Wales international remains a part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad for at least another year, following speculation about his future.

 

Davies’ previous deal had been set to expire at the end of the current summer, prompting rumors of a possible transfer, including a link to Welsh club Wrexham. However, Spurs have now confirmed that they have opted to extend his stay, underlining his continued importance to the team.

 

The club shared the news through an official statement on Saturday, saying:

“We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to extend Ben Davies’ contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026. Now our longest-serving senior player, Ben joined us from Swansea City in the summer of 2014 and has been a constant, reliable presence in our squad ever since.”

 

Since his arrival at Tottenham more than a decade ago, Davies has become a mainstay in the squad, known for his versatility, defensive consistency, and leadership qualities. The 31-year-old joined from Swansea City in July 2014 and has since made 358 appearances across all competitions, contributing significantly on the left side of the defence and occasionally in a back-three.

 

Last season, Davies featured 28 times for the North London side, stepping up particularly during a challenging period when the team was hampered by a series of injuries to key defenders. His dependable performances earned him praise from fans and coaching staff alike, reaffirming his value to the squad.

 

Currently, Davies is away on international duty with Wales, where he continues to serve as national team captain. He recently played a role in Wales’ 3-0 victory over Liechtenstein in a World Cup qualifier, helping Craig Bellamy’s side maintain momentum ahead of a crucial group-stage clash against Belgium on Monday.

 

When asked about his future earlier this week during international media duties, Davies offered a modest response, deflecting attention from the contract talks:

“I don’t think I am going to be the person who is making any of those decisions, so as far as I’m concerned, it’s full focus here this week,” he said.

 

With his future at Spurs now secured, Davies is set to enter his 12th season with the club, bringing both experience and stability to a squad that continues to evolve under Postecoglou’s management. His contract extension reflects the club’s trust in his leadership both on and off the pitch.
