Wolves Boss Vitor Pereira Suggests Gonçalo Guedes Could Be on His Way Out Amid Summer Exit Talks

 

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Vitor Pereira has hinted that forward Gonçalo Guedes may be heading for the exit door this summer, as the club braces for a potential reshuffle ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

 

The Portuguese international, who signed for Wolves in a high-profile £27.5 million move from Valencia in the summer of 2022, has endured a mixed spell in the West Midlands. Despite being regarded as a marquee signing at the time, Guedes has struggled to establish a consistent place in the starting lineup, and his long-term future at Molineux has come under increasing scrutiny.

 

A Rocky Journey Since Arrival

 

Although Guedes initially joined Wolves with high expectations, his time at the club has been marked by loan spells and inconsistent form. After a difficult start, he was loaned out to Benfica midway through his debut campaign. He later rejoined the Lisbon giants at the beginning of the following season, seemingly edging closer to a permanent departure.

 

However, a full transfer away failed to materialize, and Guedes returned to Wolves ahead of the 2024/25 season. He ended up staying with the team for the entire Premier League campaign—his first full season at the club—during which he made 29 league appearances, contributing two goals and four assists. He also showcased some of his attacking flair in the Carabao Cup, netting three goals in just two matches.

 

Despite these flashes of form, it now appears that Guedes remains unsettled and open to a move, according to manager Vitor Pereira.

 

Pereira: Guedes Wants a Fresh Start

 

Speaking to Portuguese outlet Record, Pereira shed light on the situation, admitting that Guedes could be one of several players to depart this summer.

 

> “I’m not certain about Gonçalo Guedes either, as he’s still under contract with us,” the Wolves manager stated. “But from what I understand, he’s been here for a few years now, and there’s a desire on his part to explore other options. We’ll have to see if that’s possible.”

 

 

 

Pereira’s comments underline a broader sense of transition at Wolves, with several first-team players either already gone or facing uncertainty about their future at the club.

 

Wolves Bracing for a Summer of Change

 

Already this summer, Matheus Cunha has completed a high-profile move to Manchester United, while Rayan Aït-Nouri has been snapped up by Manchester City, in what appear to be strategic sales to help the club navigate financial constraints and reshape the squad.

 

Additionally, South Korean forward Hwang Hee-chan has also been the subject of transfer speculation. In a recent interview with the Express & Star, Hwang spoke of his deep affection for Wolves, but notably avoided confirming whether he would remain at Molineux beyond the summer.

 

> “I really love this club,” Hwang said, “but I don’t know what will happen. We’ll have to see.”

 

 

 

The club notably turned down a £21 million bid from French outfit Marseille for Hwang last summer. The player was eventually persuaded to stay following conversations with then-manager Gary O’Neil, who has since departed.
