Ange Postecoglou sacked by Tottenham

The 2024/25 campaign proved to be a turbulent and contradictory season for Spurs. This alarming inconsistency ultimately forced the hand of club chairman Daniel Levy, who has now decided that a managerial change is necessary to steady the ship and lay the foundations for a more stable 2025/26 campaign. Despite hopes of continuity and recent European silverware, Postecoglou will not be returning to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium dugout for a third season.
Postecoglou himself appeared hopeful about his future at the club just days ago. Speaking during the club’s Europa League victory parade, the 59-year-old addressed fans with optimism, declaring, “Season three is always better than season two.” However, those words have now taken on a more bittersweet tone as his tenure comes to an abrupt end.
With the managerial position now vacant, attention has swiftly turned to identifying a suitable successor to lead the team into what is expected to be a transformative summer. One of the names high on Tottenham’s shortlist is Bournemouth’s highly rated head coach Andoni Iraola. The Spaniard has impressed during his time with the Cherries, and while Spurs are admirers, reports suggest he is currently leaning toward signing a new deal to remain at the Vitality Stadium. Should circumstances change, Iraola remains a serious candidate.
Another early option, Fulham boss Marco Silva, has already ruled himself out of the running by confirming his commitment to the Cottagers for the 2025/26 season. Silva’s decision has further narrowed Tottenham’s options, with the club now believed to be focused on Brentford manager Thomas Frank.
Frank, a highly regarded Danish coach with a proven Premier League track record, has emerged as a leading contender for the Spurs job. Crucially, he is understood to have a £9 million release clause written into his Brentford contract—an amount that Spurs would be willing to pay if negotiations move forward.
