Nicklas Bendtner Urges Tottenham to Re-Sign Christian Eriksen Following Brentford Success
Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur would be making a wise move by bringing Christian Eriksen back to North London this summer. Speaking to Tipsbladet, Bendtner pointed out Eriksen’s recent revival under Thomas Frank at Brentford as a clear sign that the Danish midfielder still has much to offer at the top level.
Eriksen, who is now 33 years old, is approaching the end of his contract with Manchester United, and unless an extension is agreed upon, he will officially become a free agent at the end of the month. Although Eriksen has hinted in recent interviews that he might be interested in exploring opportunities outside of the Premier League, speculation around his future continues to build.
The playmaker was recently asked whether he would consider reuniting with Thomas Frank—his former manager at Brentford—possibly at a new club, or even back at Brentford. Eriksen responded to the suggestion with amusement, noting that he had not been contacted by Tottenham’s new manager regarding a potential return. Still, the possibility remains open, especially with former players and pundits like Bendtner publicly advocating for the move.
Christian Eriksen is no stranger to the Tottenham faithful. During his seven-year spell at the club from 2013 to 2020, he became a key figure in the team’s midfield, making 305 appearances and contributing significantly with goals and assists. His performances were instrumental in Spurs’ rise under then-manager Mauricio Pochettino, helping them reach the UEFA Champions League final in 2019.
After leaving Tottenham in January 2020 in a €27 million move to Inter Milan, Eriksen enjoyed a brief but successful stint in Serie A, winning the Scudetto in the 2020–21 season. Following his dramatic collapse due to cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 and subsequent recovery, Eriksen made a remarkable return to football with Brentford in early 2022. His short spell there under Thomas Frank was widely viewed as a triumph, both in terms of his individual performances and as an inspirational comeback story.
Later that year, he joined Manchester United, where he has since played a supporting role in midfield under Erik ten Hag. However, with limited playing time and no clear guarantee of a central role moving forward, Eriksen is believed to be weighing his options as free agency approaches.
Nicklas Bendtner believes that now is the right time for Tottenham to act.
“He could definitely strengthen Tottenham’s squad and add valuable experience and creativity,” Bendtner told Tipsbladet. “It would be a meaningful reunion, not just emotionally for the fans, but also tactically for the team. He proved at Brentford that he can still perform at a high level under Thomas Frank. I have no doubt he’ll find a good club where he and his family will feel at home.”
Whether Tottenham’s management will follow up on Bendtner’s advice remains to be seen. But with Eriksen available on a free transfer and possessing deep ties to the club, a return to North London may not be out of the question—especially if Thomas Frank, should he become further involved in Spurs’ transfer plans, sees value in rekindling their previous working relationship.
