Tottenham could hijack Man United’s Mbuemo deal in stunning twist
Tottenham Could Challenge Man United for Brentford Star Bryan Mbeumo Following Thomas Frank’s Appointment
Tottenham Hotspur may be set to disrupt Manchester United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo, as new developments suggest that Spurs could make a bold move for the Brentford forward following the appointment of Thomas Frank as their new head coach.
According to senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke, speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, sources have indicated that Frank’s arrival in North London could significantly influence Mbeumo’s next destination. Frank, who coached the 25-year-old Cameroon international during his time at Brentford, could be a pivotal figure in persuading the player to opt for a switch to Tottenham over Old Trafford.
Despite this, it remains a major challenge for Spurs to outmaneuver Manchester United, who are reportedly well advanced in negotiations for the winger. In fact, former United chief scout Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider on June 9th that Portuguese side Sporting CP, managed by Ruben Amorim, were also in the race, but United were leading and nearing an agreement with Brentford.
Mbeumo, whose consistent performances in the Premier League have caught the attention of several top clubs, is said to be keen on a move to Manchester United. Sources close to the player believe that he is strongly inclined towards a transfer to Old Trafford, with personal terms and wage packages being major deciding factors. United, for their part, appear willing to meet the demands, with insiders revealing that the club is prepared to “break the bank” to secure Mbeumo’s signature, offering a lucrative deal that could be difficult for rivals to match.
Although Tottenham’s new manager, Thomas Frank, has a long-standing relationship with Mbeumo and could be a tempting draw for the player, Football Insider reported on June 10th that Frank is not expected to immediately target Brentford’s key players. Despite speculation linking Spurs with both Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, a large-scale raid on his former club seems unlikely at this point.
Still, Spurs remain hopeful. While United are leading the race, there’s speculation that the North London club could make a late push, especially if negotiations between Brentford and United falter. O’Rourke noted that although Mbeumo is attracted by the idea of reuniting with Frank, the momentum remains with Manchester United, who are confident of completing the transfer in the coming weeks. One offer has already been rejected, but talks are ongoing, and both clubs are working towards reaching a compromise on the transfer fee.
Another factor playing in United’s favor is their financial superiority. Tottenham may struggle to match the wage package United can put on the table, which could ultimately be a decisive element in Mbeumo’s decision-making process.
> “It’s going to be difficult to beat Man United to Mbeumo,” O’Rourke said on the podcast. “United are well down the line on this move, and the player himself wishes to make that move to Old Trafford rather than other potential clubs. Thomas Frank could be a big pull for Mbeumo, but United are very optimistic that they’ll be able to land the Cameroon international.”
As the situation unfolds, Tottenham have begun looking at alternatives in the forward department. One player who has emerged on their radar is Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo. With United seemingly closing in on Mbeumo, Spurs have been given a clearer path to pursue the Ghana international without direct competition from the Red Devils.
Mick Brown stated that Tottenham will now intensify their interest in Semenyo, believing they have a strong chance of finalizing a deal. This follows earlier reports that United had held preliminary talks with both Brentford and Bournemouth regarding Mbeumo and Semenyo respectively. However, with Mbeumo becoming the priority target for Erik ten Hag’s side, Spurs are now focusing on bringing Semenyo to North London.
As the summer transfer window heats up, both Tottenham and Manchester United are making strategic moves to reinforce their attacking options. With Mbeumo’s future still uncertain, fans of both clubs will be watching closely to see who ultimately lands the highly sought-after winger.
