Brentford are increasing the pressure on Manchester United to meet their £60 million valuation of forward Bryan Mbeumo, as reports emerge that the west London club has initiated formal transfer discussions with Tottenham Hotspur. The Bees are reportedly hoping to accelerate a bidding war by introducing a new, serious contender for the 25-year-old’s signature.
Newly appointed Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank, who previously managed Mbeumo during their six-year partnership at Brentford, is believed to be personally involved in trying to persuade the Cameroon international to stay in the capital. Frank’s deep connection with the player, built over years of close collaboration, could play a key role in turning Mbeumo’s head.
Earlier this month, The Athletic reported that Mbeumo had prioritized a move to Manchester United, choosing Old Trafford as his preferred destination despite interest from several top Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Spurs. However, new developments suggest a shift in Mbeumo’s stance. According to Sky Sports, the forward has become increasingly intrigued by the idea of reuniting with Frank at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
This unexpected twist in the saga has triggered concern among the Manchester United fanbase, particularly since the club has yet to improve on its initial offer. United’s opening bid, which comprised £45 million upfront with an additional £10 million in performance-based add-ons, was promptly rejected by Brentford.
In light of Tottenham’s renewed interest, United may now be forced to act swiftly to avoid losing out on one of their top attacking targets. Despite the emerging competition, there is still optimism in Manchester. Sky Germany reports that Mbeumo has already verbally agreed to personal terms with United, indicating his willingness to make the move to Erik ten Hag’s side.
