Dutch international Xavi Simons has reportedly informed RB Leipzig of his desire to leave the Bundesliga club this summer, intensifying speculation about a potential move to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. The 22-year-old midfielder is believed to be seeking a new challenge after what he feels has been a completed development phase at the Red Bull Arena.
According to fresh reports, Tottenham are showing “genuine interest” in Simons, with new head coach Thomas Frank eager to reshape the squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. While no formal discussions have taken place and no official bid has been submitted, insiders suggest that a move to North London could be a story to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
Simons initially joined RB Leipzig on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023 and impressed during his first spell in Germany. His performances convinced Leipzig to make the deal permanent in January 2025, for a reported fee of £42.6 million. Since then, he has delivered solid numbers—scoring 21 goals and recording 23 assists in 76 appearances across all competitions.
Despite Simons’ individual brilliance, RB Leipzig endured a hugely disappointing 2024/25 season, finishing in seventh place—marking their worst Bundesliga campaign since they were promoted in 2016. Spurs paid a reported £10 million in compensation to lure Frank from West London, with the Danish coach signing a three-year contract to lead the project at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
