David Ornstein makes public details of two separate Newcastle offers for Anthony Elanga

Newcastle United’s Pursuit of Anthony Elanga Rebuffed Again by Nottingham Forest

Highly-respected journalist David Ornstein has reported that Newcastle United recently submitted a £45 million bid for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga, only for the offer to be swiftly turned down. The Swedish international – a key figure for Forest during the 2024/25 Premier League campaign – continues to attract significant interest, but Forest remain determined to keep hold of the 23-year-old.

 

Elanga, who is also an international teammate of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, featured in every single one of Forest’s league games last season. He was instrumental in their push for European qualification, contributing six goals and an impressive 11 assists across 38 matches. His pace, direct style, and ability to play across the frontline have made him one of the breakout stars of the campaign.

 

Despite Elanga’s standout performances, Forest ended the season narrowly behind Newcastle in the table. The Reds finished seventh, just one point and two places behind the Magpies, which saw them qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League, while Newcastle secured a Champions League spot.

 

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Newcastle have tried to lure Elanga to St. James’ Park. Ornstein also revealed that the club previously made an offer for the winger on deadline day in August 2024. That earlier bid was a complex package: it included a guaranteed £30 million, an additional £10 million in potential performance-related add-ons (split into two separate £5 million clauses), and the proposed inclusion of Miguel Almiron, valued at £5 million, heading the other way to Forest.

 

Nottingham Forest also rejected that structured offer. Since then, Almiron has departed Newcastle altogether, returning to his former club Atlanta United in a deal believed to be worth around £11 million in total for the Premier League side.

 

Elanga originally joined Forest from Manchester United for a fee of £15 million in July 2023. Since arriving at the City Ground, he has made 83 appearances and scored 11 goals. His consistent performances, versatility across the frontline, and elite speed have made him a standout performer and a valuable asset for Forest.

 

Given Newcastle’s ambition to strengthen their attacking options ahead of another European campaign, it’s no surprise that Eddie Howe sees Elanga as a desirable addition. However, Forest’s firm stance suggests they are not ready to cash in on one of their most exciting players – at least not for the price currently on the table.

 

As the summer transfer window unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will return with an improved offer or shift their focus to other targets. For now, though, Anthony Elanga looks set to remain in red – not black and white.
