Leeds United are reportedly monitoring the situation of Vladimir Coufal, with a view to securing the services of the seasoned Premier League right-back this summer. The Czech international is poised to leave West Ham United after a five-year spell at the London Stadium, and interest in his signature is steadily mounting.
The 32-year-old defender, who has earned 55 caps for the Czech Republic, is expected to part ways with the Hammers as his contract expires. Despite no longer being a central figure in David Moyes’ long-term plans, Coufal remains a reliable and proven option in the Premier League. This pedigree has made him an attractive proposition for several clubs looking to bolster their defensive ranks—Leeds United among them.
Farke on the Hunt for Full-Back Reinforcements
Leeds boss Daniel Farke is prioritising defensive reinforcements in this summer’s transfer window, especially at full-back. The Whites have seen their depth on both flanks eroded in recent weeks, with left-back Junior Firpo agreeing to join La Liga side Real Betis on a free transfer. Meanwhile, right-back Sam Byram’s future at Elland Road hangs in the balance, with no clear resolution on his contract renewal.

During his time at West Ham, Coufal made 180 appearances in all competitions, contributing 20 assists despite never scoring a goal. In the Premier League alone, he featured in 147 matches, recording 19 assists, a tackle success rate of 56%, and helping the team to 19 clean sheets. Though primarily a right-back, Coufal’s consistent performances and work ethic have made him a fan favourite in East London.
That said, his positional flexibility is limited. According to Transfermarkt, Coufal has played just one senior match at left-back and three at centre-back across his entire career. Given Leeds’ glaring lack of depth on the left side of defence, Farke may need to consider a more versatile addition for that flank.
