Report: Wolves Defender Toti Gomes Optimistic About Club’s Future Following Summer Revamp

 

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Toti Gomes has expressed confidence that the team can emerge stronger next season as the club undergoes a significant squad reshuffle this summer. Now preparing to enter his sixth season at Molineux, the Portuguese centre-back believes that the incoming changes — while inevitable — could ultimately serve as a springboard for progress under manager Vitor Pereira.

 

Speaking to Wolves’ official media, Toti struck a calm and measured tone when asked about the ongoing squad overhaul. He acknowledged the natural cycle of transfers, emphasizing that change is a routine part of football at the highest level.

 

“This kind of thing happens every year at every club,” Toti said. “Some players move on, others come in — it’s part of the game. What really matters is that those of us who are here remain fully committed to giving everything for the badge and for our teammates.”

“At one point, we were looking at the table and starting to accept that going down was a real possibility,” Toti admitted. “That fear was creeping in. It affects you emotionally — as a player, you start to second-guess yourself, and that can influence performances.”

 

However, the arrival of Pereira brought a renewed sense of belief and stability. “When Vitor came in, everything started to change. He gave us a new mentality, a new tactical direction, and most importantly, he made us believe that we could still turn the season around. From his very first match in charge, we began picking up points, and the momentum just kept building.”

 

Thanks to a series of impressive performances, Wolves not only avoided the drop but finished the campaign a comfortable 17 points clear of the relegation zone. For Toti, who played every single minute under Pereira after his appointment, the turnaround was a testament to the manager’s influence.

 

“Personally, I’ve enjoyed my football under Vitor. He gave me responsibility and trusted me in my preferred position at left centre-back. We’ve been working really hard in training to bring his tactical vision to life on the pitch, and I think we’ve made real progress.”
