Tottenham are battling West Ham United for the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy recently made a bold statement suggesting that the North Londoners are aiming to win the Premier League and the Champions League in the coming years. A product of the Aston Villa academy, Jacob Ramsey has done well since breaking into the senior side back in the 2020/21 campaign. The former England Under-21 international has racked up over 160 senior appearances for the Villans, scoring 17 goals.However, the 24-year-old struggled to cement his spot in the first XI under Unai Emery last season, managing only 29 Premier League appearances. And now to boost their Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and transfer spending, Villa are willing to consider offers for Ramsey. They are ready to sell their homegrown talent for around £40m before Monday’s deadline to balance their books, with West Ham United also keen on his signature.West Ham are interested in Ramsey as they seek replacements for Mohammed Kudus. But, a top spokesperson for the Hammers’ owners has revealed that the Villa star is poised to sign for Tottenham.Selling Ramsey, in terms of Profit & Sustainability, would represent ‘pure profit’ for Villa given he is an academy product. And as they are the club most at risk of breaching PSR, the Villans have to be clever to meet the financial rules before Monday’s deadline. This has forced them into considering offers for Ramsey, who has the required attributes to thrive in Frank’s system at Spurs.

An attacking midfielder by trade, the Englishman can operate in a midfield three or as a wide playmaker and provide energy, guile and invention to a team. With Son Heung-min lacking consistency and looking way past his best, the Villa star could be a good option to replace the Tottenham skipper on the left flank.
