Palmeiras Close in on Nottingham Forest’s Ramón Sosa After Previous Setbacks
Palmeiras appear to be on the verge of finally securing the signature of Ramón Sosa from Nottingham Forest, after two previous failed attempts to land the winger. The Brazilian giants had initially pursued the Paraguay international during the winter transfer window and again in the build-up to the FIFA Club World Cup, but both efforts ended in disappointment.
At the time, reports indicated that Sosa was not interested in moving to Brazil, with the player himself expressing a desire to stay and fight for his place at Nottingham Forest. However, circumstances have since changed dramatically, and Palmeiras have made significant strides in their latest attempt to bring the 25-year-old to São Paulo.
On June 27th, ESPN Brasil reported that Nottingham Forest had accepted an €11 million offer from Palmeiras for Sosa. According to the outlet, the Copa Libertadores holders are now increasingly confident of finalizing a deal with the winger, who is also said to be more receptive to the move than in previous months.
Further backing these claims, Paraguayan outlet Versus has stated that the player is now “virtually” a Palmeiras signing, with only the formalities of signing the contract remaining. The report emphasizes that all parties — the clubs and the player — have reached a full agreement, and the transfer is expected to be officially concluded once Palmeiras return from their Club World Cup campaign.
Sosa joined Nottingham Forest from Argentine club Talleres in August last year but struggled to make a major impact during his debut Premier League season. He managed just a single start in league action and was largely used as a substitute or left out of the matchday squad altogether.
With opportunities limited under head coach Nuno Espírito Santo, the Portuguese manager has reportedly informed Sosa that he will not be a key part of his plans going forward. This development has played a crucial role in convincing the winger to reconsider Palmeiras’ offer, reversing his earlier stance and paving the way for a move to Brazil.
Despite the increasing certainty surrounding the transfer, Palmeiras have remained tight-lipped publicly. When asked about the club’s pursuit of Sosa, vice-president Paulo Roberto Buosi refused to comment directly, instead emphasizing that the focus remains firmly on the Club World Cup quarterfinal clash against Chelsea.
Speaking to CNN Brasil, Buosi said:

Nevertheless, behind the scenes, Palmeiras are confident they’ve landed their man. Sosa is expected to join the Brazilian outfit officially after their participation in the Club World Cup ends, potentially bolstering their squad ahead of a crucial phase in the domestic and continental campaign.
