Giorgio Scalvini’s feelings become known about joining Newcastle United after £50m update

According to the i Paper, Scalvini is ‘open’ to the idea of signing for Newcastle United this summer. They claim that he is interested in playing in the Premier League, having spent his entire career so far in Serie A.

If Scalvini does sign for the Magpies, he will join fellow Italian Sandro Tonali. They have played together at international level, and could now potentially become domestic teammates as well.

The Magpies do not have a rich history of Italians playing for the club. Five Italian players have represented Newcastle United in the Premier League, with Scalvini eyed as the sixth.When interest first emerged, it was suggested that Newcastle wanted to pay £30million for Scalvini.

However, he is going to cost a lot more than that.The i Paper state that Atalanta will not sell the centre-back for less than £50million. A fee in that region would make him Newcastle’s most expensive defender ever, eclipsing the £35million arrival of Sven Botman.

The aim would be for Scalvini to be Botman’s long-term partner on Tyneside, with Newcastle looking for the final piece of their back four to join Botman, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall.

Scalvini could be exactly that, but Newcastle must decide whether they really think he is worth the money that Atalanta are looking for. If not, they will have to turn their attention elsewhere to sign a right-sided centre-back.
