Tottenham open ‘initial talks’ to sign PL hitman similar to Isak

Tottenham Hotspur, now under the stewardship of newly appointed head coach Thomas Frank, are reportedly intent on bolstering their attacking options ahead of the new season. One player firmly in their sights is Yoane Wissa, the 28-year-old Brentford forward who enjoyed a highly productive campaign under Frank’s leadership last season.

 

Wissa lit up the Premier League in the 2024/25 season, finding the back of the net 19 times for the Bees. That standout form has not only caught the eye of several clubs but has seemingly made a strong and lasting impression on Frank, who is now eager to reunite with the Congolese international at Tottenham. The familiarity between the pair, built during their time together at Brentford, could play a crucial role in Spurs’ pursuit.

 

But Wissa isn’t the only Brentford player to have drawn interest from Tottenham this summer. Bryan Mbeumo was also closely linked with a move to north London earlier in the window. However, recent reports suggest that Mbeumo is now leaning toward a transfer to Manchester United instead, which has shifted Tottenham’s focus more heavily toward Wissa.

 

According to CaughtOffside, talks between Tottenham and Brentford regarding Wissa have already begun. The discussions are believed to be part of a broader effort by Spurs to strengthen their frontline, with the Brentford striker identified as a priority target. With just one year left on his current deal, Wissa is in a vulnerable contractual position, but Brentford are still believed to be demanding a fee in the region of £50 million — a steep figure considering the risk of losing him for free next summer.

 

Despite these ongoing talks, the report makes it clear that negotiations are still in the early stages. No formal agreement has been reached, and the deal is not yet close to completion. Tottenham, however, are not alone in the race for Wissa’s signature. Premier League rivals Manchester United and Newcastle United are also keeping a close eye on the situation. United, for instance, are reportedly assessing their forward options, with Yoane Wissa being viewed as a possible upgrade or alternative to the likes of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Højlund. For Tottenham, their interest in Wissa also arrives during a period of growing uncertainty surrounding the future of Brazilian striker Richarlison. Although the former Everton man is said to be determined to prove himself and earn a place in Frank’s plans, there are increasing rumours that Spurs may be open to selling him if the right offer arrives. Should Richarlison depart, it would further open the door for Wissa to step into a prominent role at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
