SkySport: Roma have approach Wolverhampton Wanderers for Striker Fabio Silva

AS Roma have made a formal approach to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Fabio Silva and are reportedly ready to challenge both Olympique Marseille and Leeds United for Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The Giallorossi have been one of the most proactive Serie A clubs in the summer transfer window so far, working tirelessly to reshape their squad in line with new manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s vision. The club is determined to bolster its attacking options and is pursuing multiple high-profile targets.

Fabio Silva on Roma’s Wishlist

Gianluca Di Marzio, a trusted transfer expert at Sky Sport Italia, reports that Roma are currently in negotiations with Premier League side Wolves for Portuguese striker Fabio Silva. The 23-year-old has just entered the final year of his contract, which expires in June 2026, meaning Wolves are under some pressure to sell now or risk losing him for free next summer. This situation could lead to a reduced transfer fee, making the forward a more attractive prospect for Roma.

Silva, once considered one of Europe’s top young attacking prospects, was signed by Wolves from FC Porto in 2020 for a staggering €40 million. However, he has struggled to consistently establish himself at Molineux and has instead gained experience on a series of loan spells at clubs such as RSC Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven, Rangers, and most recently, Las Palmas in La Liga.

His time in Spain proved to be his most productive so far, scoring 10 goals and contributing 3 assists in 24 league appearances during the 2023/24 season. Roma hope that under Gasperini’s guidance, the forward can rediscover his full potential and flourish in Serie A.

Roma Reignite Chase for Igor Paixao

Meanwhile, Roma have also renewed their pursuit of Brazilian winger Igor Paixao, who is currently plying his trade at Dutch champions Feyenoord. The club had shown previous interest in the talented attacker, and their enthusiasm has been reignited, particularly as Paixao remains hesitant about a proposed move to the English Championship with Leeds United.

Roma aren’t alone in their admiration. French outfit Olympique Marseille are also tracking the player, while Roberto De Zerbi, the newly appointed boss at Marseille, is believed to be keen on securing the Brazilian’s services.

However, Roma hold a trump card in Gasperini, who is a long-term admirer of the player. Reports indicate that the Italian tactician had already targeted Paixao during his time at Atalanta, underlining his belief in the winger’s technical qualities and attacking flair.

The sticking point remains the €30 million valuation placed on Paixao by Feyenoord. That fee, coupled with fierce competition, presents a significant hurdle for Roma’s transfer negotiators.

What’s Next for Roma?

With Gasperini keen to overhaul the attacking line and implement his trademark aggressive, high-pressing system, both Fabio Silva and Igor Paixao are seen as ideal fits for the new-look Roma. Talks are expected to continue over the coming days as Roma attempt to outmaneuver their European rivals and secure these key summer signings.

Roma fans will be watching closely as the transfer drama unfolds, hoping to see new attacking firepower arrive at the Stadio Olimpico in time for the upcoming Serie A campaign.
