Tottenham’s Striker Conundrum: Why the Vlahović Opportunity May Be Too Good to Pass Up

 

Tottenham Hotspur haven’t exactly thrown their weight behind the striker market in the early stages of the summer 2025 transfer window. But heading into June, there was a growing belief that the North London club could be in the market for a new centre-forward—especially considering the underwhelming form of both Dominic Solanke and Richarlison during the 2024/25 Premier League campaign. Neither player managed to hit double digits in goals, leaving Spurs with a glaring hole in the No. 9 position.

 

Surprisingly, it was veteran forward Son Heung-min who ended the season as Tottenham’s top scorer in the league. However, the South Korean talisman’s future at the club is currently uncertain, with increasing speculation linking him to a potential move away. Reports indicate that Major League Soccer giants LAFC are seriously exploring the possibility of signing Son, and if that move materializes, Tottenham would lose not only their most consistent attacker but also a legendary figure whose leadership and experience are irreplaceable.

 

Should Son depart, Tottenham’s attacking deficiencies would become even more pronounced. At present, the club’s only notable addition to their forward line is Mohammed Kudus, a versatile former West Ham United star. While Kudus brings creativity, pace, and flair to the pitch, he’s not a traditional striker nor someone widely known for a prolific goal-scoring record. His presence improves the attack, but it doesn’t solve the pressing need for a reliable finisher.

 

Tottenham’s management remain admirers of Solanke, who despite his low tally showed glimpses of potential. And as far as Richarlison is concerned, the club appears to be reluctantly accepting the fact that his transfer value has diminished. The Brazilian international has become increasingly difficult to offload, and with few suitors willing to match Spurs’ valuation, the club might be better served holding onto him for at least one more season. Under new head coach Thomas Frank, there’s hope Richarlison could rediscover his sharpness and make a comeback—provided he can stay fit for the entire season, something that’s been a struggle in recent years.

 

However, with the lack of quality striker options readily available in the European market, Tottenham may need to reassess their approach. One name that has surfaced recently is Randal Kolo Muani. Currently under contract with Paris Saint-Germain, Kolo Muani is reportedly of interest to both Juventus and Spurs. But Tottenham may want to shift their focus elsewhere—perhaps toward the striker who could be displaced by the Frenchman’s arrival in Turin: Dušan Vlahović.

 

Vlahović, once regarded as one of the brightest young strikers in Europe, now finds himself at a career crossroads. Following his explosive rise at Fiorentina, his move to Juventus promised much but delivered little, largely due to the club’s ongoing instability and questionable tactical direction. Still, the Serbian striker has shown enough flashes of quality to prove that his talent remains intact. And crucially for Tottenham, Vlahović’s situation may be about to open the door for a cut-price opportunity.

 

In a recent press briefing, Juventus general manager Damien Comolli made a telling statement regarding Vlahović’s future. Via transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Comolli confirmed that the club and the player have reached a mutual understanding: Vlahović can leave this summer if the right offer comes in. “We have agreed with Dusan on his exit this summer if we get a good proposal. Vlahović can only leave with a good bid and we’ve not received it so far,” Comolli stated.

 

This revelation presents Tottenham with two clear options. First, they could make an immediate move and try to land Vlahović before the transfer window closes in August—potentially for a bargain fee if Juventus are desperate to move him and complete a deal for Kolo Muani. Alternatively, Spurs could play the long game, negotiate a pre-contract agreement in January, and bring the striker in for free ahead of the 2026/27 season.

 

Given Juventus’ eagerness to reshuffle their attacking options, and the fact that Vlahović has only one year left on his contract, Tottenham could be in a strong position to secure the Serbian’s services for under €30 million—an astonishing discount for a player of his pedigree. This strategy would allow them to allocate funds elsewhere this summer while planning for a more potent and complete attacking setup down the line.

 

Signing Vlahović now—or preparing a future move—could prove to be a masterstroke. In the right environment, with consistent service and a tactical setup suited to his strengths, he could rediscover the form that once made him one of Serie A’s most feared strikers. Tottenham, under Thomas Frank’s rebuild, could be the ideal place for his resurgence.

 

For Spurs, the message is clear: rather than overpaying or settling for less-proven targets, it may be wiser to wait, maneuver cleverly, and strike at the right moment. Dušan Vlahović might just be the answer to their striker dilemma—not just for the coming season, but for the club’s long-term ambitions.
