Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly willing to part ways with South Korean forward Hwang Hee-chan in the final stretch of the summer transfer window—if the right offer comes in. While the club has already overseen a series of high-profile exits this summer, there’s a growing expectation that more players could still be on their way out before the deadline.

Hwang, who joined Wolves permanently in 2021 following a loan move from RB Leipzig, has endured a difficult 2024/25 campaign. And according to the Daily Mail, Wolves would now consider sanctioning his sale, provided they receive a suitable bid.

Wolves Continue Summer Reshuffle

This summer has seen a significant reshaping of the squad under new manager Vitor Pereira, whose arrival has marked the beginning of a new era at Molineux. Several key players have already departed, including Matheus Cunha, Rayan Aït-Nouri, and Pablo Sarabia—three attacking talents who were capable of changing games on their own. Their departures have raised eyebrows among the fanbase, with concerns over whether the club can adequately replace their creative output.

In response, Wolves have moved quickly to bring in reinforcements. New signings such as Colombian winger Jhon Arias, Norwegian midfielder David Moller Wolfe, and young striker Fer Lopez have all arrived to bolster the ranks. However, the transition period means that Pereira’s new-look squad still has many questions to answer as the season approaches.

Adding to the exodus was Portuguese winger Gonçalo Guedes, who recently completed a move to La Liga side Real Sociedad. Guedes himself admitted that he never felt fully settled during his time in England and is hoping for a fresh start in Spain.

Hwang’s Future Still Uncertain

Amid these changes, Hwang Hee-chan’s name has emerged as one of the potential next exits from Molineux. Though no specific asking price has been publicly set, reports suggest that Wolves are open to offers and may be seeking to recoup the £14 million they paid to make his move permanent three years ago.

Last summer, French club Marseille reportedly tabled a £21 million bid for Hwang, which Wolves turned down. Given his recent dip in form, it is now considered unlikely that such a high offer would be repeated in the current window.

The 2024/25 season proved to be a disappointing one for the 28-year-old. Hwang scored only two goals in 25 Premier League appearances and often struggled to assert himself in matches. Injuries also disrupted his rhythm, and his performances lacked the sharpness and energy he had shown in previous seasons.

Under former boss Gary O’Neil during the 2023/24 campaign, Hwang was seen as an “excellent” attacking option, regularly praised for his work rate, movement, and ability to pop up with important goals. Unfortunately, that form deserted him in the following year, and his role in the squad became increasingly peripheral.

Championship Link Emerges — But Player Unwilling to Drop Down

Earlier in the window, Hwang was linked with a surprise move to Birmingham City, who are hoping for a strong season back in the Championship. The Blues have already signed midfielder Tommy Doyle on loan from Wolves and are understood to have the option to buy him permanently for £10 million should they secure promotion.

There was speculation that Hwang might follow Doyle to St. Andrew’s, but the move never materialised. According to reports, the forward was reluctant to drop down to the second tier of English football, preferring to remain in the Premier League or move abroad if possible.

Make-or-Break Season if He Stays

If no deal is reached and Hwang remains at Wolves beyond the window, there will be significant pressure on him to rediscover the form he once showed. With the departures of key contributors like Cunha and Sarabia, there’s a major void to be filled in terms of goals and assists. Hwang, known to be a confidence player, may yet prove valuable if he can rediscover his rhythm.

Capable of going on goal-scoring runs when in form, the South Korea international could play an important role—especially in a squad undergoing major change. However, it remains to be seen whether Wolves will receive a tempting offer or whether Hwang will be handed a fresh opportunity to turn things around at Molineux.

Either way, the final weeks of the transfer window promise to be critical both for Hwang’s future and for Wolves’ reshaped squad under Vitor Pereira.
