Sky Sports: Newcastle ‘Make Offer’ to Sign ‘World-Class’ Star After Woltemade Deal

 

Newcastle United’s transfer activity shows no sign of slowing down, with the club now moving for Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi, according to Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Magpies have reportedly lodged a loan bid with an obligation to buy for the Italy international, as they attempt to strengthen their midfield ahead of Monday’s fast-approaching transfer deadline. Discussions between the two clubs are said to be ongoing, though Inter remain reluctant to sanction the deal on Newcastle’s terms.

Inter Hold Firm on Frattesi Valuation

Inter Milan are understood to value Frattesi at €40 million (£34 million) and would prefer a straight permanent sale rather than a loan-to-buy arrangement. Newcastle’s current proposal is believed to include conditions tied to the obligation to purchase, which may not be guaranteed. For that reason, the Serie A giants are pushing back, demanding more clarity and firmer commitments if the midfielder is to leave the San Siro this summer.

Newcastle’s Transfer Push Continues

This move for Frattesi comes hot on the heels of Newcastle’s capture of Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade, who arrived earlier this week in a deal that has already sent ripples across the Premier League transfer market. The German forward is seen as a potential long-term replacement for Alexander Isak, whose future remains uncertain amid intense interest from Liverpool.

With Callum Wilson having left St James’ Park on a free transfer to join West Ham earlier this summer, Newcastle find themselves short of options in attack. At present, Isak is the only recognised senior striker in the squad, yet the Sweden international is refusing to play until his future is resolved. This has increased pressure on Eddie Howe and the recruitment team to act swiftly before the deadline, targeting reinforcements both up front and in midfield.

Why Frattesi Fits Newcastle’s Plans

Frattesi, 25, would add dynamism and European pedigree to Newcastle’s midfield. The Italian joined Inter in the summer of 2023, initially on loan from Sassuolo, before the Nerazzurri made the transfer permanent the following year. In his debut season at San Siro, he featured 47 times in all competitions, registering seven goals and two assists while playing a pivotal role in Inter’s strong Serie A campaign that saw them finish second.

The midfielder, who has been described as a “world-class” talent in Italian football circles, is also a regular for the national team and is admired for his relentless energy, forward runs, and ability to contribute both defensively and in attack. Despite his importance, he has yet to feature for Inter in the current 2025/26 campaign, having remained an unused substitute in their 5-0 opening-day victory over Torino.

A Race Against Time

Newcastle now face a race against the clock to convince Inter to compromise on the structure of the deal. With less than a week to go before the transfer window closes, the Magpies’ hierarchy are pushing to tie up both Frattesi and an additional striker in order to avoid being left short in key positions.
