Newcastle striker transfer collapses, but second deal still on

A potential striker transfer involving Newcastle United has collapsed despite being lined up for an eye-watering fee. However, supporters at St. James’ Park can still expect fresh firepower to arrive, as another, even more expensive deal is moving ahead after the club successfully lodged the necessary paperwork before the deadline.

Throughout the summer, the forward line has been the main focus of Newcastle’s transfer activity. With the clock ticking down on deadline day, the Magpies oversaw a number of major moves that have significantly reshaped their attacking department.

 

The headline departure is undoubtedly Alexander Isak, who has sealed a blockbuster switch to Liverpool for a staggering £125 million. Factoring in an additional £5 million in solidarity payments, Newcastle’s final windfall will reach £130m – a new British transfer record. Losing their talismanic striker is a blow, but the sizeable fee offers Eddie Howe’s side financial flexibility to reinvest across the squad.

Hope confirmed later in the evening that Osula will no longer be leaving Tyneside, with Newcastle deciding to keep the youngster as additional cover in the No. 9 role following further discussions. “William Osula’s move to Frankfurt is NOT happening following an afternoon of talks,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “The Dane will be retained by NUFC as cover.”

 

While that chapter closes, fans were still anxiously awaiting confirmation of Yoane Wissa’s transfer from Brentford as the 7pm deadline passed. The Congolese international, admired for his versatility and explosive attacking threat, has been pursued throughout the window. Newcastle agreed a £55m fee with Brentford and Wissa successfully completed his medical.

 

Although the official unveiling has yet to take place, Craig Hope reassured supporters that there should be no last-minute problems. Newcastle lodged their deal sheet before the cut-off, granting them an additional two hours to finalise the paperwork. “There are no hitches anticipated in arrival of Yoane Wissa with deal sheet lodged,” Hope clarified.
