Mainoo had pushed for a loan exit over the summer, but United boss Ruben Amorim rejected the request. Speaking recently, Amorim suggested that United’s lack of European football this season has made squad rotation difficult, limiting opportunities for younger players like Mainoo.
“He needs more matches for me to justify rotating the team,” Amorim explained. “With only one game a week, it’s extremely difficult. I’d have to take out one of the players who’s in rhythm to give him minutes. If we were in Europe, if we had more games, you can rotate, you can divide the workload. That changes everything.”
