Alan Sugar Urges Tottenham to Replace Thomas Frank With Premier League Title-Winning Manager
Former Tottenham Hotspur chairman Alan Sugar has sparked debate among supporters after publicly encouraging the Lewis family to make a bold move for former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.
Klopp stepped away from his role at Liverpool in 2024, having announced well in advance that the 2023/24 season would be his last at Anfield. After nearly a decade in charge on Merseyside, during which he transformed Liverpool into serial contenders and guided them to major honours including the Premier League title, the German coach chose to take a break from frontline management. Since leaving Liverpool, Klopp has not returned to the dugout and instead accepted a more strategic, behind-the-scenes position as Red Bull’s Head of Global Football.
Given that career shift, Klopp has not appeared eager to dive straight back into the intense pressures of club management. His current role allows him to influence footballing projects across Red Bull’s network without the relentless weekly demands that come with managing at the highest level. That context makes Sugar’s suggestion all the more eye-catching. As a former Spurs owner himself, Sugar is well aware of the realities of elite football, which is why his call for Tottenham to target Klopp has raised eyebrows across the fanbase.
Taking to social media platform X, Sugar urged the Lewis family to use their financial power to tempt Klopp into a sensational return to the Premier League. He described the idea as a “win-win” scenario, arguing that Tottenham’s owners possess a “massive fortune” and could not only attract a manager of Klopp’s stature but also fully back him in the January transfer window. In Sugar’s view, appointing a proven serial winner would instantly elevate Spurs’ ambitions and credibility.
However, the reaction from Tottenham supporters online was overwhelmingly sceptical. Many fans were quick to dismiss the idea as unrealistic, with one supporter commenting: “There’s delusions. There’s mega delusions.
