‘Immediately say yes’ – Tottenham €40m+ offer simply couldn’t be refused

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to strengthen Thomas Frank’s attacking options during the winter transfer window as injury problems continue to pile up in north London. Spurs have been badly affected by fitness issues in recent weeks and the situation is now reaching a point where the squad is thin in key forward areas.

With several senior attackers unavailable, the club’s recruitment team have begun pushing a number of names higher up their shortlist. Among those being monitored are Ajax winger Mika Godts, RB Leipzig prospect Yan Diomandé and Juventus starlet Kenan Yıldız. While all three are admired by Tottenham, securing either Diomandé or Yıldız in January would be extremely complicated, given their importance to their current sides and the size of the fees involved.

Both Diomandé and Yıldız would command major money, but Diomandé in particular is believed to be available for around £40 million, which equates to roughly €46 million. Even then, Tottenham would still face stiff competition and resistance from Leipzig, making Ajax’s Godts the most realistic of the trio.

Dutch outlet Soccer News have now weighed in on Spurs’ interest and provided further insight into Godts’ situation. Their report comes shortly after Tottenham confirmed the appointment of former Everton and Ajax defender John Heitinga as Thomas Frank’s new assistant manager. Heitinga’s agent, Rob Jansen, has spoken of his delight at seeing his client join the Premier League side.

Heitinga arrives in north London after spending just over four months back at Ajax, and during that spell he worked closely with Godts in Amsterdam. The Belgian winger featured prominently under Heitinga, registering four goals and five assists across 17 appearances, and the Dutchman knows the player’s strengths better than most.

While it remains unclear whether Heitinga’s arrival is directly linked to Tottenham’s interest in Godts, his presence gives Spurs valuable inside knowledge. According to Soccer News, the north London club have been handed real encouragement. They claim that if Tottenham were to submit a bid in the region of €46 million, Ajax “would of course immediately say yes,” suggesting the Eredivisie giants would be more than willing sellers at that level.

That stance could tempt Spurs into acting quickly, especially given Frank’s current lack of options. The Dane is presently unable to call upon James Maddison, Dominic Solanke, Mohammed Kudus or Dejan Kulusevski, leaving Tottenham short of creativity and firepower.

Matters have been made worse by Richarlison joining the growing injury list. Frank confirmed on Thursday that the Brazilian forward will be sidelined for around seven weeks with a hamstring problem, further reducing the number of available attackers at his disposal.

With fixtures continuing to come thick and fast, Tottenham may feel forced into the market before the window closes. Should they decide to gamble on Godts, reports suggest an offer slightly above €40 million could already be enough to persuade Ajax, with some sources even hinting that less might do the job.

Godts is under contract with Ajax until 2029, but his performances this season have made him one of the club’s standout attackers. The Belgian has contributed eight goals and eight assists in 24 appearances across all competitions, underlining why Tottenham see him as a player capable of making an immediate impact in the Premier League.

As injuries continue to disrupt Frank’s plans, Spurs’ pursuit of a new forward appears to be gathering momentum, and Godts is increasingly emerging as a realistic January solution for the north London side.
