Tottenham given green light to complete deadline day transfer exit but Thomas Frank says no

Randal Kolo Muani’s future has become one of the most talked-about topics of the January transfer window, with uncertainty surrounding whether the Paris Saint-Germain striker will remain at Tottenham Hotspur beyond the deadline. Juventus are pushing to bring the French forward back to Turin, hoping to secure another loan deal after his mixed spell in north London.

The 27-year-old’s time at Spurs has fallen well short of expectations. Signed to add firepower and versatility to Thomas Frank’s frontline, Kolo Muani has struggled to adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier League. While he has shown flashes of quality in Europe and domestic cups, consistency has been elusive.

So far this season, all of Kolo Muani’s attacking returns for Tottenham have come outside the league. He has registered three goals and two assists in the Champions League, along with a solitary assist in the FA Cup. However, his Premier League record makes grim reading: 15 appearances without a single goal or assist. For a striker brought in to lead the line, those numbers have only fuelled doubts over his suitability for English football.

Juventus Handed Boost in Pursuit of Kolo Muani

Interestingly, the contrast between Kolo Muani’s form in England and Italy could not be sharper. During a loan spell with Juventus in the second half of last season, the France international rediscovered his confidence, scoring eight goals and providing one assist in just 16 Serie A outings. His impact convinced the Bianconeri that he could be a long-term solution in attack.

Juventus attempted to re-sign him last summer but were beaten to the punch by Tottenham, who managed to strike a deal with PSG instead. Now, with the January deadline looming, the Turin giants appear ready to make another move.

According to TuttoSport, PSG have now given Juventus the “green light” to push ahead with a deal before deadline day. The report claims the Italian side would take on Kolo Muani’s wages for the remainder of the season, easing PSG’s financial burden. Talks are said to be ongoing with the player’s camp, and Kolo Muani himself is reportedly eager to return to Italy after what has been described as a nightmare spell in England.

If negotiations progress quickly, a late move back to Turin could yet materialise.

Thomas Frank Not Willing to Sanction Exit

However, any potential transfer comes with a major obstacle: Tottenham manager Thomas Frank. The Spurs boss is reluctant to let another attacker leave so late in the window, particularly without a replacement already lined up.

Frank made his position clear during Friday’s press conference. When asked directly whether he wanted to keep Kolo Muani at the club, the Dane offered a blunt response: “Yes, next question.” It was a short answer, but one that spoke volumes about Spurs’ current stance.

Tottenham’s squad has already been stretched by injuries and inconsistency, and losing another forward option could leave Frank dangerously short-handed for the second half of the season.

Spurs’ Thin Striker Options Raise Concern

Time is also working against Tottenham. The club had been linked with Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is keen on a move away from Selhurst Park. However, that potential switch now appears unlikely, with Mateta instead edging closer to AC Milan.

With Richarlison sidelined through injury and Dominic Solanke only recently returning to fitness, Spurs would be left with very limited attacking depth if Kolo Muani were allowed to depart. That reality alone makes a late exit increasingly difficult to approve.

Kolo Muani is therefore expected to be included in Tottenham’s matchday squad for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Manchester City. With Frank already juggling fitness issues and a lack of attacking alternatives, the Frenchman remains an important body, even if his form has not lived up to expectations.

Whether Juventus can tempt Spurs into a last-minute rethink remains to be seen, but for now, Kolo Muani’s immediate future still appears to lie in north London rather than Turin.
