Vieira was working as part of Sky Sports’ Premier League coverage on Sunday afternoon, where he discussed Tottenham’s worrying form and the challenges currently facing the club. Given his long history as an Arsenal legend and former Gunners captain, many viewers might have expected him to take some satisfaction from Spurs’ recent struggles. However, Vieira instead delivered a balanced and honest analysis of their situation.

Speaking to Sky Sports presenter David Jones, the Frenchman admitted that Tottenham’s current predicament is disappointing, especially considering the club’s stature in English football.

“It is sad, of course, because we’re talking about one of the greatest clubs in London and in the Premier League,” Vieira explained.

While acknowledging Tottenham’s reputation and history, Vieira also pointed out what he believes has gone wrong behind the scenes in recent years. “In the last couple of years, it’s a club that has spent a lot of money,” Vieira continued. “But there hasn’t really been a clear structure or direction, even though there are many quality players in the team.”

He suggested that simply investing large sums of money in transfers does not guarantee results if the club lacks a proper strategy.

“If you don’t have the right structure or a clear direction, you can spend as much money as you want, but it won’t bring success,” Vieira added.

The former Arsenal star concluded by admitting that Tottenham’s long-term plan is difficult to understand at the moment, hinting that the club must first establish a clear identity and footballing vision before they can begin to recover.

“Trying to understand where they want to go right now is quite difficult to explain,” he said.
