Pressure Mounts on Igor Tudor as Tottenham Urged to Replace Him With Ex-Manager

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes the club do not necessarily need a manager who will arrive and completely revolutionise their style of play. Instead, in his view, Spurs should focus on appointing someone capable of bringing stability and organisation back to the team during this turbulent period.

Bent argued that Tottenham’s priority should simply be finding a coach who can steady the ship and make the side much tougher to beat. According to him, the club are currently far too vulnerable and easy for opponents to play against, which is a major concern given the pressure they are under.

“You just need someone who is going to steady the ship and make you hard to beat,” Bent explained while discussing Tottenham’s current struggles.

He went on to suggest that bringing in a manager who prioritises flashy, attacking football might actually worsen the situation rather than solve it. While entertaining football may excite supporters, Bent believes Tottenham’s immediate problem is their lack of defensive solidity and balance.

“There is no point bringing someone in who wants to play all this attractive football and push the team forward,” he continued. “Because right now Spurs are far too easy to play against. That needs to change first before anything else.”

Meanwhile, another former Tottenham star, Teddy Sheringham, has also raised serious concerns about the tactical direction the club is heading under current boss Igor Tudor.

Speaking during an interview with talkSPORT, Sheringham questioned whether Tudor’s system is actually helping the players perform at their best. The former striker suggested that Tottenham have enough quality within their squad to avoid relegation, but he believes the tactical setup is currently creating more problems than solutions.

According to Sheringham, the players would benefit from being placed in their natural positions within a system they fully understand.

“Without a doubt Tottenham have the players to stay up,” Sheringham said. “But they need to be playing in their rightful positions in a system that they know and understand.”

He pointed specifically to Tottenham’s recent decision to play with three centre-backs, something he feels has caused imbalance across the pitch.

Sheringham highlighted that in recent matches Spurs have deployed three defenders against teams that were only using a single centre forward. While that may appear defensively solid on paper, he believes it actually weakens the team in other areas.

“I mean, playing three at the back against just one centre-forward in the last couple of games…” he said.

“If you have got three defenders marking one striker, then you are clearly getting overrun somewhere else on the pitch. It just doesn’t make sense.”

The former England international did not hold back in his assessment of Tottenham’s recent performances, describing them as extremely frustrating to watch.

“It has just been naughty viewing,” Sheringham added. “It is horrible to watch at the moment. Things need to change drastically, otherwise Tottenham are going to keep sliding further and further down the table.”

When asked where he believes Spurs might finish this season, Sheringham admitted that much could depend on who is in charge of the team in the coming weeks.

He pointed out that football can change very quickly when a club makes the right managerial decision, referencing the impact managers can have when they come in and steady a struggling side.

“It depends on who is in charge for the next few games,” he explained. “Things can change very quickly in football. You have seen situations like that before.”

However, he also emphasised that Tottenham need someone who truly understands the club’s identity and culture if they are going to turn things around.

“Tottenham is a different club to Manchester United,” Sheringham said. “You need someone who understands the feeling of the club as well.”

Finally, Sheringham was asked the blunt question of whether he believes Spurs can avoid relegation if Igor Tudor remains in charge.

His answer was short, direct, and brutally honest.

“No.”
