Reports reveal that manager Erik ten Hag recently discussed potential player sales with the club’s new leadership, suggesting that Mason Mount could be considered for transfer. Mount, who joined last summer from Chelsea and was entrusted with the iconic No. 7 jersey, has struggled to make a significant impact, primarily due to persistent injuries.
The acquisition of Mount raised eyebrows, especially given the presence of Bruno Fernandes, who fulfills similar roles and more. Unfortunately, Mount’s inaugural season saw him miss 30 games, and while there was hope he would eventually justify the €64 million spent on him once fully fit, patience appears to be running thin within INEOS.
Unlike the Glazers, who often retained players in hopes of recouping their transfer fees later, the new owners are more pragmatic. This previous approach only served to inflate the wage bill while players’ performance declined further.
Now, Manchester United is reportedly open to parting ways with Mount after just one season, with several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur, expressing interest.

There remains hope that Mount can impress the new hierarchy during pre-season, showcasing why he deserves to stay and fight for his place. Perhaps United should consider giving him one more season to prove his worth before making a final decision.
